I know a win is a win, but its worrying knowing that the only side you probably would have beaten in the comp was the team you played. I know everyone is going to try and turn negatives into positives, but lets review our expectations pre-game. We all were gunning for a drubbing, not just a win. They had 4 or 5 key players out, and with it being round 1, there was going to be no let up from us. We were extremely lucky, we relied on good fortune more than skill. We'll have to improve a hell of a lot, even against the Dragons next week, cos they will shape as stiffer competition than the Titans imo. Plus, we'll be doing it without Moses.
 
Your right that we barely would have beaten another side based on that display. I wouldn't say it filled me with optimism about our prospects.

Brooks looked pretty ordinary. Even farah and Teddy were quiet so credit the Gold Coast for a whole hearted effort.

At least defensively we were pretty good in general. Attack was awful but that is something that will get better. I would rather that then the other way around.

But yeah i get what your saying it.
 
I would agree GNR however I would say it was more so the titans were lucky. They got a penalty in the 68th minute for when it was a clear knock on, that led to their last try and equalised at 18-18\. Again, it is early in the season with a new team. Time will tell.

I agree , round 3 is going to be a nightmare IMO .

The reality is that we are a long long way off. Finishing in the bottom half of the 8 will take a massive effort based on tonight.
 
I guess we really shouldn't be expecting too much from them, this is primarily a young team. I think the trial matches have given us a false sense of security in a way. Now the real comp has started it won't be so easy for them. That said, we really should've put a depleted and troubled Titans team away a lot easier than we did tonight.
 
I expected us to win in a tight game, 19-12 was my score in the thread here.

Positives -
Woods and Taupua are class.
Siro looked better, but needs to score tries to be the force we are hoping he will be.
Lovett had a great debut.
Galloway was great in his first stint, and his last run.
We are always going to be a more dangerous attacking team whilst Teddy is on the field.
Our defense ended up winning us the game with a lot of help from Patty.
Patty is a champion.

I wont dwell on negatives, but Brooks needs to take control of things out there. He showed just how fast he can be, but failed to take on tired Titans forwards especially down to 12 men.

Overall I just expect JT to fine tune things for the Dragons, with defense again the priority.
 
Taupau needs to start, its as simple as that. Can't afford to have him getting splinters on his arse for the first 15-20 mins every week.

How were we 'extremely lucky'? We got the raw end of the stick from the ref's with both forward passes and stripped balls
 
If the players were judged on whether we as spectaters 'expected a drubbing' they would be devasTated every season when us fans 'expect a premiership', we played well below what we are capable of-it was round 1 ffs, if we are still playing that mediocre come round 20 there will be cause for concern. A win to start the year is a bonus, the start of the year is a lottery more often than not. I'll take it.
 
They were depleted, those calls shouldn't have made a difference. People were saying we were going to put 40 on them. We shouldn't have had to be in positions where those calls should have cost us if we're really the side people thought we were prior to kick off.

I thought Taupau did start tonight? Being at the game I can tell you that tonights was a pretty impressive performance for two reasons. Firstly because the Titans were playing high on emotion with the crowd getting right behind them(I have never heard a Gold Coast crowd so vocal).Secondly was because of the heat.It was atrocious there were a number of Tigers players in the 20's that were physically ill from the heat & if anyone seen how drenched the jerseys of the players walking around greeting the fans after the game would agree.We got the 2 points which is massive in those conditions so I wouldn't be reading to much into it.

Turn negatives into positives as much as you like, it won't change the reality of where we're at.
 
It was definitely a scrappy win but let's give some credit to the titans they fought hard and pushed us the whole way. Had trap game written all over it. Let's be thankful we nabbed the 2 points and realise we have plenty of work to do to compete with the big boys.

It was an away game and the opposition was primed to put everything into it and subsequently they played out of their skins The match resulted with a West Tigers report card of "can improve" written all over it. West Tigers will certainly improve. It's too early in the season to put a dismal picture on any win.
 
We'd want to improve a hell of a lot by 2 weeks tomorrow, cos the premiers will beat us by 50\. They beat the Broncos by 30, who are stronger than us, so where will that leave us if we don't improve?

1 from 1 is what I am seeing. Yeah, we really should be better than that I suppose. My bad.
