Worst player to play Origin football

@Goose said:
You guys aren't trying there is heaps of blokes that were barely first grade standard that got a run, some were not even first grade standard. Phil Dukes, Rex Wright, Paul Field, Grahem Lyons to name a few.

I was steering clear of the earlier years since I can't really comment on their weekly form but yes Rex Wright, the last man to play origin from the bush I recall. Poor Phil Duke - who I think was also plucked from the bush (Moree Boomerangs I think) - always gets the blame for Phil Sigsworth's dumb pass.

"Test match" Mario Fenech. Ok maybe there are worse but for a key position he was really shown up. No wonder we got smashed that year… Other nominations for me from NSW:

Eric Grothe Jr - struggles to stay in first grade
Terry Matterson
Matt Adamson
David Hall
Greg Florimo

It's only my background as a Balmain fan that stops me questioning how David Brooks made a SOO team. Great player but origin level?

I'd have to think some more on Queensland...

Yoss Terry Matterson Your kidding aren't you In that era I probably only rate Clyde ,Lindner and Mackay as better locks And Clyde and Lindner could play Lindner imo was enormous at SOO level

Come on Happy! He was solid rather than origin class! But we'll have to agree to disagree. Maybe I am being a bit harsh - he certainly isn't the worst…

Sorry forgot to add to the locks Langmack as well

Matterson was a good ball player ,solid defender and had a turn of pace if he was 10-15 kgs bigger he could of been anything I actually see a bit of Liam Fulton in Matterson

After about 10 hours with the SOO almanac, google, 6 blokes who way to much footy drinking 3 cases of beer we picked a worst of origin team ( the purpose of the session) I have it saved somewhere, I'll submit it next week, we had problems at half, we usually pick a good half, but most spots we have picked a shocker!
The Qld team is prob mostly blokes from 95!

Hard to think of a bad half. Maybe John Simon? He'd have to consider himself lucky to have played origin.
Could have to pick someone out of position…

Gee looking at the list of names their are a few I've never heard of. Imagine Paul Field chatting to you and talking about his origin appearances. "Who'd you play your club football mate?" "Cootamundra"...

Paul Field only made country 1 year! There are a few players that were very lucky!

How about Michael Hagan Played one game for Qld after Alfie broke his ankle in arguably's Qld's best ever win .

Still amazed that Lindner played for almost 20 minutes witha broken leg in that game Pity he never seemed to show the same commitment for his club sides

We picked a NSW side.

I leave it to you Northerners to pick a Maroons worst of origin

You guys have picked some doozies over the years.

I played junior footy with Steve Hanson's son and he was the coach. Boy did he go on some rants about when he played origin.

I was lucky enough to get coached by Gary Freeman aswell. He was probably the bloke who had a massive influence on my game. His son is playing with the Storm lower grades now I believe.

the worst of Origin, A very subjective thing. A few blokes escaped the side cause one bloke or another rated them. Im sure others can contribute to it

1\. Phil Sigsworth (we reckon there is worse players but that pass gets him in)
2\. Phil Dukes
3\. Grahem Lyons
4 Phil Bailey
5 David Hall
6 Michael Buetner
7 John Simon
13 Alan Wilson
12 Paul Field
11 Tony Rampling
10 Lindsay Johnson
9 Rex Wright
8 Steve Hanson

Goose That team would struggle to win an NRL game let alone a SOO game Well done to you and your mates

I can see why you want us to make our own team I don't think their are any Qlders bad enough to make that side

Colin Scott

Colin Scott was a very talanted footballer in the BRL… He was the premier Fullback for many years winning a few Premierships. At Origin Level, he just didnt seem to shine in a team surrounded by Lewis, Meninga, Close etc, but he played 19 games for Queensland. He was mainly a defensive player, and It wasnt until Gary Belcher came along that we saw the 'fullback' being used as a weapon...

Stop protecting your Brisbane Easts buddies . On a serious note I''m pretty sure they found out he was having eye problems which was affecting his eye sight for night games and his games improved once that was sorted out . Sticking the goal kicking duties on his shoulders when he wasn't really a noted kicker didn't help

Ok So goose has named his side as the Worst NSW SOO ever

Here comes the Qld Worst side ever and funnily enough when I went to the original club I saw I recurring theme

1 Colin Scott (Brisbane Easts)
2 Brad Backer(Brisbane Easts)
3 Adrian Brunker (Not sure but heard after he visited Langlands Park he was never the same)
4 Brett French (Wynnum Manly ,but again after playing 1 game at Langlands Park wrecked him)
5 Steve Stacey (Brisbane Easts)
6 Greg Holben (Brisbane Easts )
7 Paul Green (Brisbane Easts)
8 Craig Greenhill (Brisbane Easts)
9 John Lang (Brisbane Easts ) Captain Coach
10 Paul Khan Brisbane Easts)
11 Gavin Jones (Brisbane Easts ) Soft missed tackle on Crusher in 85 wins NSW the series
12 Cavill Heugh (Brisbane Easts)
13 Wayne Bartrim (Gold Coast ) Probably met Tiger Watto while they were both there and caught the Brisbane Easts Bug then

14 John Dowling (Brisbane Easts)
15 Mike McLean (Brisbane Easts)
16 Ross Henrick ( Valleys)
17 David McLean (can't find out anything apart from Penrith or Balmain but we'll assume he is from Brisbane Easts)

Seriously though 13 from 17 from one Brisbane Club Goose your mob would romp it in against this mob
