Worst refereeing in any sport

It really has hit an all time low this year they miss so many obvious things. The only positive from this game is one team will be upset at the end. I hope we can make it to one in the next few years.

While the referees are horrible the bigger problem is the rules - they need streamlining to remove grey areas and accentuate on what makes the game exciting.

Agree 100%. I think rule changes like the stripping rule and others hinder the refs and just make them whipping boys in a lot of no win situations. A big overhaul is needed.

Simple reality is we all remember what Hayne did to us vs Canberra in Canberra early on in the JV.

He hasn't gotten any better and he is classed as the top reff.

Just back from the game, lucky enough to be wined and dined in a cooperate box.Not only saw the game live from a great vantage point, but had tv monitors to check the dubious calls.I said in a post last week that Manly would not get a 50/50 call and the chooks would win, and thats how it panned out. Although to be honest their was not much in it.

You know the Tigers could match both sides in attack although our defense would get murdered. I thought Manly were the better side, but I do hate the chooks,so I may be a little biased

Manly had 6 refs calls go against them….terrible refereeing...a real shame

Yeh they were screwed most of the night but then they get the biggest screw up of all go there way - square up

If NRL wants to build, and they can build A LOT given the amazing product they've got, the rules and refs have to be fixed up for 2014\. I've said it before, and i'll say it again. REFS NEED A MASSIVE SHAKEUP.

lotta people getting turned away by this BS.

What? I watched this game as an unbiased hater of both teams - I thought the refereeing was reasonable - the only points were Lyons penalty try which was no way a try - the ball wa behind him and was not 100 per cent going to be a try and the probable forward pass pass in the rorters final try- they evened each other out.

Actually Ink ,I reckon if they get the penalty and the Roosters player gets ten in the bin instead of the penalty try it would of benefitted Manly even more

But we will never know now

Every season the NRL digs a bigger hole for itself with the referees blunders

If it wasn't a penalty try then Aubusson goes for 10\. Roosters probably got the better outcome of the two considering how many interchanges they'd burned by that point.

I agree - and I suppose you could call that bad refereeing - from the camera angle it did appear that the ball had gone behind Lyon which should have put some uncertainty in the decision and therefore not a penalty try which in the long run may have been a better outcome for Manly.

I agree. There are just too many rules to adjudicate on in the NRL. Compare this with AFL where the rules are comparatively so much simpler with the result that the game is usually more free flowing and exciting than NRL. Video replays in NRL have really only served to slow the game down. With the loss of momentum the game loses its free flowing excitement.

I felt it could go either way, I didn't expect them to give it, but I probably would have. I don't think there was any evidence to prove Lyon wouldn't have scored the try there. If it was sent up as no try, then I think it would have gone the other way.
