I think Gould superseded them both Happy, but I suppose that's not fair considering his record at SOO.

I'd say the 'worst' SOO Coach would be John Peard… His club coaching was just as bad!

I respect Gould as a coach Watto
You have to
Look at his record at NRL level and SOO record

I read his autobiography "Good as Gould' A really good read honestly

Got it from a bargain basement bin though

Without a doubt Bellamy. All he did was get his Melbourne boys a cupboard full of origin gear to go with the boats and tvs.

I'd go with this. Had ample time to stamp his authority on origin and only succeeded in gifting spots to NSW born Storm players.

just coz i dont like him il say mal maninga

but seriously, for NSW bellamy was bad. hes a great coach at club level but you could tell he was too intense for origin. the players were under too much pressure because they never felt their positions were safe under bellamy. and his selection of steve turner… :bash

Ron Willy is the worst coach I can remember.

He didn't pick players that were clearly the best available cause they weren't his type of player, and gifted the QLDers the series.

Bellamy took a page from Willy's book it seems.

I dont really like Big Mal either, I was watching League in the 80s and he just came across as pure arrogance. Almost as if he was taking a siege mentality towards an interview.

And I agree the two Murrays, although NSW almost won in 06 under Graham until 'that' pass.

Another name that I haven't seen is Michael Hagan.

Michael Hagan has been the 'real' Queensland Coach for the last 2 years… He has fundamentally counteracted anything NSW has thrown at Queensland, so he deserves some credit.

He has never been a Head Coach/Manager style person, he is more of a tactical man and is better on the ground...

Bellamy for me , I agree with the Bogan he got his boys from Melbourne a gig & some of them didnt deserve there places.

Ron Willey did win an Origin series following on from Fearnley, while Bomber Peard was pretty unspectacular so was Super Coach Jack Gibson who suceeded him.
While the Prince of Portland Craig Bellyache has proved that he can only coach a club side that ignores the salary cap to gain sucess and in the process make it look like he's a great coach (fail).

For Sticky are you talking most hated or worst coach. I could agree with him being the most hated, but he isn't close to the worst coach. He won his first series as coach with very convincing wins in games 2 and 3, and then last year put forward the best NSW series since he left the job. I get it that you Queenslanders can't stand the guy, but surely you don't think that NSW were better under Murray or Bellamy. I'd give the honors to Bellamy, the areas he excells in when coaching the Storm are irrellevent in a 3 game a year series.

Good call sir (re: Bellamy taking the title in a canter)!

However (since Freddy & Joey retired) Sticky employs similarly redundant game plans and strategies that are largely ineffective in the Origin arena - and affects selections accordingly!

He needs to go before he takes Bellamy's crown!!!

I think you are being a bit harsh on Jack Gibson there. He took over the Blues side in 89 after being whitewashed by an awesome Queensland side the previous year and losing the last two games in the previous series before that. NSW was whitewashed again in his first series in charge but he did turn things around by winning the 1990 series and he also brought in some young players that eventually formed the cornerstone of the successful Gould era.

You would probably have a better idea then me Watto and that might be true. But from down here, the outside looking in, when I consider he did nothing at club level once Joey wasn't in his side, the fact that Queensland were pretty ordinary when he coached them, and that he has come into an already successful QLD set up. I just wonder how much input he has really put into the current QLD side as an assistant. The current QLD players are so skilled and experienced, and add to that, they had Darren Lockyer who was almost like an extra coach on the field. They just seemed to know what's required of them before and throughout the match anyway.
