Would you like players to do exit interviews ...

I don't know about others , but as a fan I'd like to know why players leave our club or any other club for that matter

Should every player that leaves a club for another club be forced to answer a standard 10 question exit interview by the NRL

At least then you find out what players think about your club and it's operations

Thoughts

Not a bad idea. We do exit interviews at work, I can't say I see any change come from it though so it may well be a token gesture unless CEO's are willing to make changes.

Idea that they would be for all to see ....you could a 1-10 scale from very good or very bad .....have a final question about what the club could have done to retain you

Money
Player relations
Coaching staff
Contract negotiations
Office Administartion
Comparison's to other clubs
Training
Fans
Amenities (including playing surface ,gym etc )
What club could have done to retain you / issues for leaving

Many players would be reluctant to answer honestly because they may always want to return or go to a club where one of the reasons they left has moved to.

I love (insert existing Club)they have been fantastic... I love all the boys and the Coaching staff ..I am so grateful for all the opportunities... but I really need to look after my family and grow as a person.. so I've decided to Join (insert New Club) ..I'm really grateful to get this opportunity..It's not about money or anything ..I love all the boys here and the Coaching staff have made me feel so welcome..

What more do you need to know..

Pretty good idea @happy_tiger. Most good enterprises have an exit interview process.

Great thread @happy_tiger

There's so much info that a club/employer might wish they could obtain, especially to evaluate club systems and to also improve processes going forward - player honesty is the bottom line.

1. What are three reasons you like being part of a rugby league team?
2. What is the best part about competing?
3. How do your teammates make practice fun?
4. What is your favourite sports quote?
5. What emotions do you feel when you play well?
6. Who do you wish was watching you perform at every game or match?
7. What is your favourite song to listen to prior to competing?
8. What qualities make a teammate a good team captain?
9. What is the one thing you always do after a good performance?
10. What do you do to calm your butterflies while you compete?
11. Do you have a plan to help you get to your best-focused state?
12. What is your favourite food to eat the night before a big competition?
13. Do you use visual cues of your environment to help you focus?
14. What one word describes you?
15. What is it about the coaching staff that impress you?
16. Who was your favourite coach and why?
17. What is your favorite ground to play on and why?
18. What mental tool do you use under pressure?
19. What is your favourite mantra?
20. Do you think attitude is a factor in winning?
21. What image gets you ready to compete?
22. How does being a rugby league player inspire you to do good?
23. How does rugby league make you a better person?
24. Have you ever felt harassed or intimidated as a member of staff in this club?
25. Describe the team culture you experienced here as part of our club?
26. What are your thoughts about the guidance, advisement, care you received from the following:
(a) Wellness/healthy living
(b) Sports Medicine/Science and Rehab Programs
(c) Strength and Conditioning
(d) Club Administration and Directors
27.Would you ever consider returning to us either as a player or perhaps even a coaching position in the future?

I'd like to be a fly on the wall when this is done.

Geo just posted his answer for Question 18 ....Hammer lol

So Mr Materson would u like to give us a few words as to why you r leaving

Matterson- madge worked me to hard and I chucked a sookie

"Don't care about honouring my contract. The money in the new contract is too hard to resist"
Signed, Cleary, Matterson and Moses. Good Bye"

The issue with exit surveys is that it’s too late by the time they’re done. The best assessment for retention purposes is an engagement survey. This way players and staff can provide feedback to management about how their experience compares to other teams and what needs to improve in order to retain them. There is a bit of a myth that “money” is a key reason for leaving but the data suggests other factors play a more significant role including career opportunities, non-monetary recognition, belief in the organisation vision and values, perception of the CEO and execs, on field success and workload management. These all have a stronger correlation with intention to stay than remuneration and benefits.
