clearly moltzen will never be our fullback as long as tedesco is here, or it doesn't look that way at least.

im just saying moltzen surpassed expectations at FB in 2013 before his ACL, and if he makes a good recovery he could do the same at 6\. But I don't see a long term place for him in the squad to be honest. If we want to be competitive it won't be with moltzen at 6, it will be either moses or else we may have to look for a marquee buy in 2015 if moses doesn't work out for whatever reason. but he is likely to i reckon.

Moltzen's strength is not at fullback. He can do this adequately but I do feel Tedesco is far better under the high ball and is much faster. Only difference is Moltzen has more experience and can chime into the back line very well. I've always thought that Moltzen would make a really good running 5/8, but with players like Austin and Moses in the team he will be fighting the whole time for a spot. From what I've seen, Austin has a pretty good kicking game and plays a bit more like a back rower.

BUT, we literally…and I mean literally, have no plan B if Brooks gets injured. We have seriously put all our eggs in one basket with Brooks and given our track record with injuries its a bit of a concern. Moltzen will need time in NSW cup to get his confidence back so why not give Moltzen the halfback role in NSW Cup? His pride will be a bit hurt seeing as he has more experience than others but its really a win win for everyone

We dont have a lot of back up for the key roles,1,6 and 7 and Moltzen fills the bill. The only problem he is on a hefty contract and to have that sort of money tied up in a back up fringe player is not ideal. He is a much better footballer than people give him credit for and with injuries the way they are he will play plenty of FG in 2014, also if we release him to any club will will end up paying a chunk of his contract as no one outside the ESL would be willing to pay his current contract value.

I would have him at six before Anasta, but I would probably give Austen first shot before both of them, but we know that is not going to happen and Anasta will be no6 come round one

He was pretty strong start of the year.

I believe him to be first choice at 6, and if he misses that role he is prob next in line for 1,6 and 7, and most years you will miss one of those spots for at least some period of time.

It is a pretty tough call, either way.

Tim seems a confidence player, so there is no telling how he will rebound from this recent reco, nor how he will deal with being a second string utility replacement for the spine if he doesnt earn the starting role.

For me (obviously without inside knowledge of pre-season testing), I kind of like Austin for the hard running role ala Foran at 6, just thinking a left hand shift Austin, Siro, Lawrence/Simona, Koro/Richards, with a face ball or deft hands would have defences in all kinds of bother. Thats a bunch of hard runners in a row to cover man for man, stacked up against any squad in the comp.

My initial thought was to hedge our bets and say on previous recovery it will take too long for him to recouperate (as much mentally as physically), though some of you have swayed me towards keeping him if he could deal with being a spine utility replacement. Not that my opinion matters anyhoo.

I agree 100%… This kid has played NRL for 5 years now and his experience is invaluable. Having a good player like Moltz in Reserve Grade is a great scenario for the Tigers.

If he is not happy to be apart of the squad as a back-up, then we should only entertain releasing him to ESL. Isnt he signed for 2 more years?

but i guess he wouldnt have played much in 2008 which would bring that avg down, and missing out on most of 2013 would do the same.

With Brett Finch retired, moltzen would be the sort of player that Bellamy would buy, and turn him into a better player as he has done previously. I think his days at the tigers are numbered tbh

His a good player that can play anywhere in the backline when his in form I think we should keep him for the next 2 years. And hopefully he can reach the 2011 form he showed.
