Regardless of how many COVID cases, we cannot continue to fight nature and keep locking down our country.

Sure, hospitalisations will go up. Maybe instead of boosting funding in unnecessary areas we should build extra hospitals and provide free tuition to those aspiring to study in the medical field. Counter the pandemic in a manner that does not compromise the mental health of our citizens and without driving our economy to the ground.

Our health experts and ministers ought to have had sufficient time to advance our health system to the extent where it is able to cope with increasing numbers of COVID.

The virus disappeared for a while and all our politicians sat on their hands and applauded themselves instead of opening their eyes to the serious risk of a second wave. Why didn’t we acquire larger numbers of vaccines? Why didn’t we build more hospitals?

Quarantine stations, we still don’t have them.

Clearly this should have happened but I think this is just fighting the battle better but the war is going to be won via the virus.

I said to my wife last year the Government should have been using cruise ships for quarantine. Cruises were shut down so the ships would have been available and I'm sure could have been negotiated at a reasonable cost.

Park them offshore, separate people onto various decks and test them every couple of days. You test positive you go to an isolation deck or get shipped to hospital. After two weeks you get to come home. Just like hotel quarantine but offshore.

I see some people are struggling with the maths, so here we go. Let's do the US, simply because I haven't done them for a while.

US Population is 333,143,413 so a bit more than 333 million.
US Deaths due to Covid19 is 631,299 so over 631 thousand.

333,142,413 / 631,299 is 527.7 so lets say 528

So for every 528 people in the US a person has died of Covid19. 1 in 528.

I agree with your maths but the elderly deaths heavily impact the overall rate being a significant % of the deaths whilst a low % of the population

Assuming (I don’t know these rates, they are guesstimates) they are 80% of the deaths but 20% of the population it comes down to around 1 death in 2,100 excluding the elderly

Elderly rate would be high but so would their rate of death in general

Australia in total is around 1 death in 25,000 in total and would come down to 1 in 100,000 using the same theoretical exclusion of the elderly

It's only 1 in 25,000 in Australia because we are an Island and we have built a wall to keep the world and the virus out. That wall has been breached by the Delta strain and we can no longer rely on the wall. If the virus gets hold here we will have similar number to the US unless we vaccinate.

In regards to the elderly, while this may have been the case early on, the majority of the elderly have now been vaccinated and the virus profile has shifted to those that remain unvaccinated. ie the lower age groups.

Regardless of how you slice and dice it, that does not change the over all numbers and the fact remains that so far in the US 1 in 528 people have died of Covid19 during the Pandemic. That is what we are looking at here if the Delta strain takes hold and we remain unvaccinated.

Not if done strategically. Alternate rooms (none side by side), staff isolated and tested. Food prep only on you level. I'm certainly NOT suggesting people stroll around on deck and hit the gaming rooms - they'd be isolated in their rooms as per hotel quarantine.

We have to remember Australia was basically COVID free earlier in the year. Hotel quarantine breaches are responsible for all our current cases - if they were offshore we'd have been protected by the Pacific moat.

I have never been allergic to anything in my life until, 12 months ago... all of a sudden broke out in hives for 14 weeks out of nowhere, my immune response went in to hyperdrive. Needles arent a good option for me, but damn, if they could get the pfizer here I would still do it.

Speak with your GP. Astra Zeneca will probably be an option. It's safe. Don't listen to the scare-mongering.

1. Mainstream science is correct the vast majority of the time. If you stick to the mainstream view you will be correct 99.9% of the time. It's not you either. It's the way science requires proof to verify facts. Science is reality. No single persons opinion matters.
2. There is so much disinformation and tribalism out there. There is money and power in pandering to fools who want to be smart or different or whatever rather than face reality.
