Over the past few months (let's be honest, more like years) there seems to be an increase in hyperbole, rhetoric, unconscious bias and cognitive distortions particularly when it comes to the discourse of our club.

Intentionally or unintentionally, words like “Always” and “Never” contribute to all-or-nothing, black and white thinking (and gold; black, white and gold thinking…). This binary type of thinking is harmful because it interprets situations in inaccurate extremes and is often used to make the individual asserting them feel like an opinion is stronger than it is and thus impervious to critique.
Eg. The club or a player’s performance was totally good or totally bad. If it’s not perfect, then it’s a failure. This binary way of thinking does not account for shades of grey and can be responsible for a great deal of negative evaluations of oneself and others. “Always” and “Never” statements are also very frequently used by individuals who suffer from personality disorders, because they fit neatly into the split, black and white world of their thinking. They are most often used in an accusatory, argumentative, or self-pitying way.

Basically, it's not necessary for someone else to be wrong for you to be right. We could all benefit from a little critical thinking and cognitive restructuring. By analysing and identifying the automatic thoughts that act as our own running commentary about our experiences we can become more critical about these thoughts and to consider alternative perspectives.

Might even add a few years to your life. Which means more time to see the Wests Tigers win another premiership…

The powers that be decided to let the players run the show from pretty much 2005 onwards. That's been our problem. Judging by the spineless displays on numerous occasions this year and the small glimpse into our drought of genuine leaders on the documentary it looks like that is still the case. I don’t know what I would be like if it wasn’t for the 2005 premiership. The heartbreak of 1989 stuck with me for years. I’m not greedy and I will take 05 till I die. I just feel sorry for my kids who always blame me for supporting a “loser” team.

For me it’s not so much about winning a competition, although it would be nice. It’s more about being “competitive”.
Sitting there before a game wondering if they are gonna turn up this week. If they get thrashed, am I gonna be embarrassed ,what excuse do I give my mates this time do I give the excuse we are in a rebuilding stage .

It's already 15 (even 16 now) years ago though. I agree with you both, having 2005 in our cap has helped our reputation a lot during the 2010s, but it's getting on a bit now. For some context, my 20 yr son was only 4 at the time.

Hopefully 'success' is just around the corner, and by 'success' I mean being a competitive team as @Snapper described so well just before.
