WT Forget Campbelltown

Sorry, but the Campbo folk aren't interested and never have been. Prior to the merge the West juniors were a disgrace - Wests failed dismally to develop the region. The refurb of Campbelltown was rushed to fit the Olympic Games timetable. The first game btwn Balmain and Wests was atrocious - the turf kept lifting and the sand beneath was exposed. Goats couldn't play on that track! I've said this before but it's worth reminding folk of how dumb the Wests fans were back then - during the ceremony the choir and band played a familiar song and the entire original grandstand full of West supporters stood as one - It was the Peter Allen tune Still Call Australia Home! Those near me & my mate (we in our Tigers gear) abused us for being disrespectful - I shot back and said mate I don't stand for the QANTAS Advert either!

Yeah, Cool story.

Fairytale is more like it.

We've long heard here and on other media of the head butting between the Balmain & Wests camps, but it seems small apples compared to the apparent dysfunctional relationship between Wests Ashfield & Western Suburbs Campbelltown clubs. I have to admit that as a Balmain supporter I am not too familiar with the structure, but I thought the Wests Campbelltown club was suppose to build support for the WT.s in the Campbelltown region, or were until they dropped off the Board leaving everything to Wests Ashfield.
As for the honourable Councillors comments. He is wrong if he believes all new WT supporters have no allegiance to the Wests or Balmain clubs. Much of the support is also generational and is still handed down in families.
As for Souths interest in the area, I don't recall any of them joining with the Tigers on their relay benefit run for the Picton flood victims.

Let's call it for what it is

The nrl and WT mgmt know what they are doing. We are the suckers for not saving what we have before it's gone

Over the last few years games played out of Campbelltown and Leichhardt have been against out of town teams.

Why?

So when they get rid of them, the crowd numbers justify it.

7-10k crowds on average aren't good enough.

If it was tigers v parra at Leichhardt it would sell out
Instead we play teams like the storm there.

They don't care about club history. They aren't fans. They are business people.

That's right , however if Parramatta and West tigers are going well , we could possibly get a crowd of 40K to 50K there. Also, they still get good crowd numbers at Leichhardt even for the outer Sydney sides, which they would never get if played at the stadium. A good reason to keep Leichhardt.

Before the last Cambo game, and because it has hosted one more game this year and havent included it…since last year CSS has averaged more then LO

CSS 13592
LO 13236

It's clear that Campbeltown is not the answer, particularly when not even the council supports a club who is doing more for the area than any other club is every likely to. The area has a very large proportion of first home owners who normally already have another team. I can understand why corporates aren't interested.

So it looks like the current setup will continue.

No it won't

They'll end up playing less and less games at ctown and Leichhardt as time progresses

So what would be the point of playing parra at LO and selling out? Doesn't it make sense to play at Homebush and getting a larger crowd?
Everyone thinks that the last game last year was great because it sold out. Al I saw was people getting locked out. Not a great way to grow your prodict.

It's not a big conspiracy to lower crowd numbers, it's just part of the deal with ANZ. For paying us so much to play there they get to pick the games they want.

Also, the Parra at Leichhardt example proves a good point. Last three years, crowds to that game have been -

2014 50k
2015 35k
2016 36k

Whereas a Leichhardt sell out is 20k.

We can't play with so many home grounds forever.
One game a year at both Leichardt and Campbelltown will happen sooner than later

I call BS.

If we are selling a product on TV - which is going to look better?

A packed leichardt oval with 22,000 fans
A half empty homebush

thefore it is better for the game as more money is made from TV rights than through ticket sales.

Well if it's all about tv money, then crowd doesn't matter at all.

Don't try and sway the argument with logic and reason Ink - it doesn't work.

I tend to agree - its just unfortunate that ANZ is the only alternative - the amenities are first class but unless you get a crowd of 20k plus the atmosphere is not there. I guess we would be sussing out Parra stadium when its done but i resent having to pay rent to that organisation.

The crowd noise could be provided by pre-recorded cheers & boos as used in sit-coms.

It already is on Channel 9 - the oomph on a hit up sounds like it came straight from batman.

The New Parramatta Stadium would be the answer except I think it is only going to hold 25-30k (5k more than it does now) - still not big enough for your 30k plus games.

Govt stadium. We wouldn't be paying anything to the Eels.
