Yeah Buddy was an easy target for Grant Mayer.
Mayer could make himself look good..which he loves doing at minimal cost to the club
Mayer strikes me as a bit up himself…It will be interesting times the next few months on and off the field.

Dont you think Mayer would look even better by signing a fringe player who turns out to be a terrific buy and plays exceptionally well thru the year???
Im sure thats what all concerned were hoping for initially.

Do you even think before posting?

No one looks good when a club sacks a player - get a freeking clue!

Be careful Irvine …. Some on here will accuse you of inciting hatred against our CEO with comments like that. :unamused:

I was speaking about nrl players as a whole. The ones that have been making headlines, going to court, being charged etc not specifically tigers players. Yes what buddy done was wrong he should not have had a joke with the boys when they were there for a campaign & I agree he should of been doing everything in his power to ensure this worked but unfortunately boys will be boys & your right I say exactly the same thing that there is people out there that would give an arm & an a leg for an opportunity & he did get his ass kicked don't worry but I stick by him no matter what except if he done something extreme. It was simply a play on words, he signed with an alias. I wish tigers all the best!

What's Buddy's signing got to do with Mayer ? He didn't bring him to the club.
McDonnell did….even thou it's been claimed his not involved anymore.
But your right if Buddy had turned out a good signing you can bet Mayer would be taking all the credit.

yep, I was right, you no idea.

Warren McDonnell recruits juniors.

You are just bagging for baggings sake…creating speculation, do you feel proud?

Unfortunately I believe you are right Ink.

Let's be honest… Mayer has trumpeted the fact this was unacceptable, tigers won't stand for it etc which is all good. But at the end of the day, if that was a more important player, for example tedesco or brooks, there's no way they would be getting the sack.

Well maybe but fact is he was on trial at a new employer and he does that. It's stupidity in the highest order. In most workplaces a valued employee of benefit to a company's performance is going to get more slack than the new bloke on probation.

course not, tedeco and brooks have had no prior incidences like these and are on far longer contracts than the 3 month 'probation' one yileen was offered.

Unlike yourself I don't solely rely on what is posted on the Wests Tigers web site or what is written in the newspaper.
So do tell if Warren McDonnell doesn't do the recruiting for players like Buddy Gordon who does ?

I think this more revolves around that Gordon was on a probationary contract due to past indiscretions at other clubs (i.e. serial offender.) He did something stupid and got the punt for it. If Teddy of Brooks did it, they'd cop disciplinary action but they wouldn't be axed because it would be their first offence.

The club would not have signed Gordon if no one within the club didn't see value in him. It makes no sense to sack him for no reason. Obviously it was enough to axe him when he has a past of bad discipline.

It's an unfortunate scenario for all involved, I hope Gordon learns from this experience and if he is offered another opportunity elsewhere he grabs it with both hands.

But why doesn't Mayer come out and say the reason he was sacked was because he was on probation… All I've hear Mayer say is he was sacked because this is unacceptable by the clubs standards, gave the club no choice etc which makes it sound like he would've sacked anyone..
To me it just seems like Mayer is using this incident to show off our high ethical standards, when in reality we only acted this way because Gordon was expendable

Because is Mayer's own words he said it didn't matter who the player was, the conduct was unacceptable and dismissal was the only recourse.

Exactly! When in reality, Mayer would find other courses of action if the player was more important
