BETWEEN them, Wests Tigers young guns Curtis Sironen, Marika Koroibete and James Tedesco might only boast a collective 10 NRL games.

But as the Concord-based outfit prepares for a new era under new coach Mick Potter, the trio form a huge component of the hopes of Tigers' fans. The Sunday Telegraph can reveal Potter hopes to have all three on deck for the club's season-opener against Newcastle at Hunter Stadium.

But rookie fullback Tedesco, who made a brilliant debut for all of 30 minutes last season before rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament, had a setback a fortnight ago when he underwent an arthroscope to clean up the same knee.

"There's less than 10 games of first grade that they've played and two of the three are coming off major surgery," Potter told The Sunday Telegraph. "So my expectations of them are not that great because a lot of players come back from those injuries and they really need a season to find their feet again. I'll ease them back in for a little bit of the trials.

"Curtis had a full reconstruction on his shoulder and he'll be up to the six month mark right when the trials start.

"I would envisage that he will start by playing 20 minutes, then 40 minutes and just seeing how confident he is and how he plays.

"It might be a bit of a slower road for these guys. The word potential is certainly bandied around a bit. These guys have got potential. How quick they'll reach it is purely dependent on how quick they come back from these injuries.

"I don't want to put pressure on them right now to say they're going to be world beaters but I have watched a fair bit of footage of them prior to their injuries and they look pretty handy."

Local junior Tedesco will again compete to wear the club's No. 1 jumper along with Tim Moltzen, Tim Simona and Sean Meaney. And Sironen could turn out to be one of the NRL's biggest halfbacks of all time, tipping the scales at 95kg and standing 1.95m.

Sironen, Jacob Miller and Braith Anasta are all being considered for the Tigers halfback role next season, with Benji Marshall to revert to his preferred No. 6 jumper full-time. In Fijian flyer Koroibete, the Tigers possess an explosive drawcard who can score tries from anywhere and boasts genuine x-factor.

"I've watched all of Marika's games and he's got that essential ingredient in that position that he plays in and that's speed," Potter said.

"He's still learning his positional play but he has got a good awareness of where to be at the right time.

"He's got something about him that will be exciting for the fans. He knows how to inject himself into the game."

Hmm, not sure about Sirro at halfback. Maybe as a backup since he has good ball skills, but I'd be leaning towards Miller at this stage since he's a natural half. Sirro will go well at lock in a couple of years though.

I like how Potter answers questions.
No pretending he's a politician, no beating around the bush - just straight to the point

I would have thought Miller was in the same boat as the trio. Is there a reason his name isn't mentioned at the beginning of the story. I hope he does start the season as our halfback.

when has potter ever said anasta is being considered at halfback? He's been quoted as saying braith will more than likely play lock

There's only one person in the known universe who thinks Anasta should play halfback and he finally left the club over the weekend. Now maybe there is some silicon-based life-form on an undiscovered planet who agrees with Tim but at this stage its opinion is irrelevant…

The coach has actually been quoted as saying Miller is the man, yet somehow this does not compute to some

Anasta has stated he is playing backrow, hopefully Miller is 7,and Sirro can ease back off the bench, maybe at 3 or 11 after some game time, anyhow things are on the up.

The future does look promising…..its starting to take shape.....be patient people, Sheens had a 5 year plan, we got a trophy after three.

With patience and support, I believe/hope Potter will have his team in a few years that can see us challenge for premierships on a regular basis...we have lots of very talented young players coming through

Sironen and Simona should be trialed at right centre to put pressure on Ayshford

I agree. I like Ayshford and he is a great player when at the top of his game, but he needs to be kept in check here and put on notice.

It could be argued that right centre was one of WT's main weak spots in 2012.

Agree 100%. Would love to see Siro at centre at some point.

It doesn't seem like there's any room for Siro in the first grade squad at the moment, given the depth we have in the halves and backrow. I'd be playing him at lock in the State Cup so he can learn the forwards trade there as I, and most, believe he would make a great lock in the future

Simona definitely YES if he outplays Ayshford during the trials

Siro I reckon will get caught out speed wise defensively in the centres .A guy of his size would easily get stood up and might struggle to move laterally also

Wake up and smell the Xmas tinsel!

Miller will be playing in the number 7 jersey, Anasta will be second row/lock and Marshall will finally go back to 6 where he belongs. Our centres have not been getting enough room to move over the past couple of seasons due to Marshalls crossfield running.

For me the biggest difference will be having a coach that is going to have 4 forwards on the bench instead of 3 forwards and a back. Under Tim Sheens we played a lot of games using only 16 men with the 17th man getting a run with 5min to go, those days are over! you can't do that and expect to make the finals.

Looking forward to seeing big Matty Groat, James Gavet and Jack Buchanan play next season.
