Pinball machines. Particularly late 70's early 80's machines like Flash, Six Million Dollar Man, Sinbad, Disco Fever etc.

My wife once asked me what our house would look like if she died before me . I pointed at all the furniture and said "All gone, just the television and one bed would remain. The rest of the space would be pinball machines".

She now plans to make sure she outlives me.

Sinbad,.or Eye of the Tiger was the best machine...one was 2 player the other 4.
We'd jig high school.and i could.play for hours on that machine for just 20c...free games no problem

I make lures and tie flies.
Many of the lures i make are copies (with permission) I make for specific fish, mackerel and mangrove jacks in particular, but Ive also designed a few myself.
Back in the Territory I designed and made a very successful popper for barramundi. The original was made from an old thong, followed by timber and molded plastic versions. The thong version was the best.
Ive also made plenty of duds that hang from the shelving in my work room as reminders
Its always satisfying catching fish on a home made lure.

Depends on where you catch it.
To me, farmed barra are a bit muddy tasting. Billabong barra are almost always either muddy tasting or algae flavoured, so not particularly nice, although there are ways to prepare it and make it more palatable.
Saltwater caught barra are clean and nicer to eat than any of the above.
I'm not a fan of barra at all and never buy it.
When I lived in the Territory I caught and ate alot of barra. I had a big cold smoker and I'd stack that with brined fillets and settle back for the day with a couple of beers. Smoked barra is another beast altogether. Smoking it firms up the flesh and turns it from a very average fish into a delicacy.
Ive also made smoked barra jerky. That used to disappear quickly.

Have a big veggie patch - grow lots of Japanese veg for the missus to lessen her missing home.

Also, have Japanese fruit trees - Yuzu (cross between a lemon and lime); 2 x Satsuma Blood Plum; 6 x Ume tree for Umeshu (Japanese plum spirit) and umeboshi (red Japanese pickled plum) commonly on rice in a lunch box.
Then there's fishing and motorcycle riding. Been riding in Japan a few times; Indian Himalayas twice; Vietnam; and possible offf to Pakistan Himalayas next year.

Breeding and racing race horses , our first mare we purchased was forbidden jewel( Fastnet rock mare ) got her at 18 months old , didn’t do a lot won a couple and run 4 th in the gloaming so was a good day , bred her a few times but no big winners , we put her over

What inspires your stories?

Therapy is expensive and there is something satisfying about inventing lives that I can destroy from the safety of my keyboard.

I do Muay Thai. I don't fight or anything, just the training. Fantastic way to blow off steam and have fun. Does absolute wonders for mental health

Honestly, this is a very valid take. Creative outlets—whether it's writing, gaming, or world-building—are incredible for processing stress. There is something deeply therapeutic about having total control over a fictional universe, especially when the real world feels chaotic. Keep writing (and destroying)!!
