Until Tui is fully fit and smashing it up at fullback in ISP, I am not even considering him to come back as our NRL no.1\. Seriously, there are young kids running around at fullback in other teams in the ISP, that are on fire each week, doing a great job and Tui doesn't even compare to them, so why is anyone considering replacing Thomson for Tui at this point in time?!
As for Gamble replacing Benji - that is not going to happen either at the moment. Gamble will get a run in NRL at some point and will hopefully prove himself at that level, but Ivan doesn't throw guys into a team on speculation.
Our problem is simple, its clearly a REALITY CHECK…...as much as our squad lifted themselves to perform at close to 100% for the first 5 rounds, once that was done and they then had to reset their goals to the long hard season ahead, it was obvious that performing week after week at that level, especially with injuries depleting the squad, was always going to be a huge task.
Take an honest long look at our roster...., now compare it to any of the top 10 teams. When it comes down to the long hard grind of NRL, week after week against quality opposition, our squad falls short in a lot of areas.
Ivan has been great and has done wonders to commence building a new culture and breathe some fresh enthusiasm and attitude, but it is a long term process and we all must be patient and not let a few early wins get us all too excited to the point where we stop being realistic.
I honestly would be happy if our team this season tried their guts out for 80 mins and showed some grit and spirit each week. Sure it will be nice to make the 8, and maybe they can, but I think we have already come a long long way in the last 8 months.
