And phone calls. Remember, Unca Nick rings because he cares.A fair few games of golf.
And the best laid plans can be blown apart with a rogue one.Rebellions are built on HOPE..
Good footwork for a front rower
Stoked with the Fonua Pole signing to back up the Matamua signing from last week. Definitely impressive in the games I saw of him last year. Also shows 2 guys who are making the most of their pre season train and trial with the NRL squad and showing what they can do!
For those who want to see a short snippet of Fonua Pole.....go to 2:00 and 3:40.
Yep. It takes a particular type to play NRL. I think Pole is too small for NRL, taking into account his age. Same with the second rowers on development contracts. Some can make a top 30 but when we're talking outstanding talent, there's a certain physical element that separates the men from the boys. How many Australian schoolboys make the NRL? Very few when you consider these were the elite juniors. There's a special talent in separating the wheat from the chaff.I really don’t get how people can put so much stock in players that haven‘t even debuted yet. And if I’m being skeptical, it’s cos I have seen 10 years of people talking up juniors who amount to nothing. Sheens always said you can’t fully judge players until they have played 50-75 games. Yet some crown these kids as future mainstays before they even debut.
Was a great place! We were spoilt in the 80’s and 90’s. Great time to have been young.Lol is that still around
Losing Luciano and Kelma at the end of the year. I like blore but 2 knees in three years is a big concern, Garner has shown fleeting glimpses and not much more. Seyfarth and Simpkins are more middles than edges. The word on here is that the 3 blokes on dev contracts are still a couple years off being ready. On top of that it has been mentioned a few times that Papalii sees himself as a middle rather than a edge.We already paid decent coin for papali which I assume for second row, think we we spent decent money again on second row it would be to the detriment and possibly loose juniors. I'd say the plan is to develop within for that position.
What's the point of being a development club when we don't develop.Losing Luciano and Kelma at the end of the year. 2RW is a MASSIVE issue, it was last year and has not been resolved this off season. Until it is addressed we can kiss finals goodbye. Papa might lock down one side in 2023, but the other will leak like sieve unless we can find a backrower who can slide their feet and stick the 1st tackle.
We threw about 300K at Tamou in the hope he would provide ‘some experience’. A Kmart front rower. We got what we paid for. I’m saying we need to spend some real coin to get difference makers. All these young guys ain’t gonna learn the ropes from guys who used to go good 5 yrs ago. Tamou was made to look good at Penrith (JFH, Koroisau, Kikau, Yeo, the young lock who played origin etc). Papali’i and Stef are exciting, we’re still a few more good forwards short though.Spot on but that's half the story.
Pap's played great in a still great pack. Parra clearly has good training and good building of players and performance.
We get James Tamou who was the forward leader at Penrith. Really, we shouldn't have needed more?
The real problem I think isn't Tamou, It's cultural. Pre Madge and we were not training hard and were just soft. Post Madge were training hard but boy we were soft on the field.
The way we played at the start of the year we had some potential. Later on we were horrible to watch. This to me indicates Attitude and leadership issues. Look no offense to Tariq Sims, I have all respect for him. James Tamou did not work for us and he worked for Penrith.
Hopefully with Cayless coming onboard, we may see Cayless and Tamou work to get this team into shape and to keep fighting even if they are loosing. Till that is solved, we could have anyone play for us and we would still be mediocre.
Pretty grim there mate. Don't think it's anywhere near that bad. The days of super big forwards are largely over. Power and agility is the name of the game now. Pole is powerful, works hard and defends well.Yep. It takes a particular type to play NRL. I think Pole is too small for NRL, taking into account his age. I'd swap Yeo for Garner in a hearbeat. We threw about 300K at Tamou in the hope he would provide ‘some experience’. A Kmart front rower. We got what we paid for. A team of kids won't win games, you need continuity. What's the point of being a development club when we don't develop.
I understand just saying have to be careful on spend externally otherwise there will be no money left for the good juniors coming through, we've already spent a bit next yearA team of kids won't win games, you need continuity.
I'm not saying don't develop what we have, but you need young players to force their way into a side, not be thrown to wolves when there is no one else.
I personally think Yeo is one of the most underrated players going around…I'd swap Yeo for Garner in a hearbeat.
We need someone like him because he tick all the boxes.
Tamou wasn't that great even at his best but still an honest prop.
In future if we are going to bring in these last ditch 'top up your retirement fund' type players then lets make it someone that demands respect in the engine room.
For examplem if we needed a prop for a year I would chase a Jared Waerea-Hargreaves type player that other forwards would follow.
We seem to jump on dead wood like packer.

To be fair, Tamou did captain a team to the grand final the season before he joined us.I'd swap Yeo for Garner in a hearbeat.

Absolutely he has done that and a great ambassador,To be fair, Tamou did captain a team to the grand final the season before he joined us.
That, along with his work ethic, would demand the respect from everyone at the club
