Mitchell Pearce has stood down as Knights captain following the scandal around his text messaging of a female club employee, effective immediately.

Pearce informed his teammates of the move after meeting with Newcastle hierarchy and coach Adam O'Brien, addressing the off-field incident that saw his future at the club called into question.

A replacement as skipper has not yet been determined, with a leadership shake-up already under consideration before Pearce dominated headlines over the Christmas period.

Pearce will front the media alongside O'Brien on Thursday to address the matter ahead of his return to pre-season training.

More to come

With any luck this derails their season which gets us one spot closer to the 8.

Sad to say but it’s becoming increasingly obvious that young Mitchell is a ‘lad’ and still fairly immature. He really needs to grow up.

How such an idiot can be raised from such a legend is baffling.

Abdo believes new Transfer System will be different in 2023.
