Adam Doueihi #227

Least they have changed the Balmain legends up a bit. Never seen Brasher or Corowa quoted before.
Though I wasn't even born during their time, Blocker and Elias were 2 of my favourite players to watch. Loved Brasher, but also loved Jason Taylor too.

The journos bloody annoy me.
It's like, they like to carry on about our "identity crisis" but I'm beginning to think we don't actually have one and they're the only ones confused about the WT.
They have trouble differentiating/separating the past from the present and are simply happy to continue riding us for our poor retention/recruitment decisions and form slumps.
We know exactly where we come from and who we are (and sadly how the things I've mentioned, have helped characterise us in more recent times).

This may possibly be true, however it is not what is being discussed here. These guys want him made captain immediately.
If a new captain is to be immediately implemented, making Adam that man is stupid.
While yes he can’t play at the moment I can see their point of view all of our last Captains have been all veterans Tamou, Mbye, Lawrence and Benji from time to time and it hasn’t worked out, like I said I don’t know if he will be Captain this year but eventually he will be we’ll find out soon who they put forth as Captain but at least by 2024 at the latest Doeuihi will be Captain of the club especially if the players alongside him are backing him to be Captain he’s admitted to wanting to be a leader so I reckon its only a matter of time before he is Captain but 22 have to wait and see

Joint capacity may be an option, but not singularly when he is almost certain to miss the first quarter or more of the season. Else whomever is named immediately lacks authority.
If they did decide to give Doeuihi Captain obviously someone would be Captain until he returned if that’s the case it’ll probably be Twal or Nofa if it isn’t Tamou

Doueihi has a lot of deficiencies in his game he needs to work on.
He is out for half the season and then will likely ride the pine for multiple games once back.
Making him captain would be a mistake this year and next.

A powerful band of Tigers old boys has initiated a strong push for 23-year-old Adam Doueihi to immediately assume the Wests Tigers captaincy for this season.

The club is yet to endorse incumbent skipper James Tamou amid increasing speculation the former Test and Blues prop, who turns 34 later this year, may be replaced.

“I think it’s time for someone younger,” said former Tigers fullback Garry Jack. And ex-Balmain Test star Larry Corowa said: “I wouldn’t go with Luke Brooks.”

News Corp spoke to multiple sources in and around the club but each was perplexed about who’d be named 2022 captain. Even board members say they haven’t been told.

Despite the club’s round one match fast approaching – it’s against Melbourne on March 12 – Tamou told Fox Sports last Friday night he was unaware whether he would be retained as the club’s leader.

Wests Tigers are the only Sydney club yet to formally announce their skipper for this year.

Tamou, Doueihi and Brooks would be frontline contenders although Alex Twal could gain some support.

But it is Doueihi who has secured some heavyweight backing from a core of former Tigers legends.

Brooks was a stand in captain ahead of Doueihi last year when Tamou was out with a foot injury. There is a suggestion Brooks may start the year as skipper before Doueihi returns from a knee injury some time after round 10.

“The club needs to do something different and they need to test the waters. They can’t keep doing the same thing. It’s been over a decade since we played in the finals,” said Tigers great Ben Elias.

“We can build a club around Doueihi. Adam is the complete footballer and is highly regarded and respected by the players.

“He is also presentable off the field. He is articulate and has a great image. We could do a lot worse than a kid like him.

“I’d go for one of the halves – Brooks or Doueihi. One of those two has to be the captain. If pushed, I’d go with Doueihi.”

While Brooks is highly regarded, Jack was another to support Doueihi as captain.

“Doueihi is a very good player,” Jack said. “He is going to be in your first grade side every week, that’s the big thing, he can read a game and he’s one of your best players.

“I think he’s a player of the future and seems quite a respectful young player. Hopefully he will be at the club long-term.

“He has grabbed his opportunity since coming from Souths.”

Legendary winger Corowa added: “Doueihi would probably be the prime contender. For the last three years, he has consolidated a first grade spot.

“He has the respect and is starting to play good football.

“But if Adam was injured, I’d look at Jackson Hastings. He is a good organiser and he talks on the field. He’s not afraid to say his piece.

“I wouldn’t go with Brooks for the big ‘c’.”

Former Tigers champion Tim Brasher said the club needed a leader more than a veteran voice.

“A captain has to be a leader and someone not afraid to make a hard call because his mates might not like it,” Brasher said.

“I would go more with a leader than someone else who has been there longer.”

“If he (Doueihi) has the boys behind him, and they think he’s a leader, then they will follow him. I have seen him play but don’t know what he’s like.

G'day @Lauren Good to see you are still posting. I hope Everything is going Very Well for You.

FG there must be a reason why Madge has held off naming a captain - agree? I refuse to believe it's just bad planning with so much at stake for Madges future.
If there is a plan other that what I've said about waiting to see Hastings in action - then what else could it be?
Tamou led us out in the first trial but if he is going to be either captain or co-captain they would have announced that wouldn't they?
If it's AD then that's a huge stress for the boy, especially if he moves around from ⅝, C or fullback.
I don't think AD and Hastings would be co-captains if they end up ⅝ and centre together.
Noffa's name was spread around by the players during the off season but historically wingers don't make good captains however there have been a few. [research later 😁]
Just trying to read Madge mind.
He likes props, hence Tamou and has stuck up for Brooks??
If Brooks doesn't produce as a general and captain there will be more ammunition to sack Madge.
I'm still going to run with Hastings.
However no-one really stands out which indicates we lack leaders.

It’s a real problem that we have virtually no players in our club that are captain material and very few that are genuine leaders. AD would get it if he wasn’t injured but i agree that he is probably not a good choice this season.

Dean Ritchie😂😂😂
Good God what a horrendous article. Next issue will be Wests Tigers legends Willie Newton and David Baysarri🙄
No wonder this imbecile's nickname is Bulldog: he is a chronic dribbler who more than likely nuzzles his own figs for inspiration.

We had 5 captains a few years ago - mayby go back to that - Dourhi, Hastings , Brooks, Twal, Stefano

Can't see him being the sole captain given his injury but he's clearly the best leader he's got and we've one of our best players.

He's vocal, he loves the club, he tries his guts out every week and he leads by example. He's captain material for sure

Wouldn't be surprised to see him share the role with Tamou or Brooks (cause Madge loves him)

There is no obvious leader with a couple of potential leaders sums up why things quickly go to crap on the field. Another big headache for Maguire to grapple with.

I'm doing very well thankyou @MAGPIES1963.
It's been a bit crazy with sleep times as my little boy was born 11 days ago and I still feel like I haven't slept since then - even though he's often sleeping.
I've never felt this much love for another human being. He's a good baby and only cries when he's hungry. So I'm absolutely dreading that the worst is yet to come and what it entails.
While I wanted to name him Brooks or Jonah, we eventually settled on Jonty.
I honestly can't wait to take him to his first Tigers game.

How are you travelling? Hope all is well.
Congratulations. It's an amazing feeling only a parent can understand.

on the second part......i thought you said you loved him?? :giggle:

No point changing captain at this point, especially when the preferred option is missing half the season.

Change next year when we have a hopefully fit Doueihi, Api, and potentially Hastings embedded in the team as options.

Just shows you how much attention we pay to you
This is the third time I have received a notification from you this morning so you must pay quite a bit. For someone who made post a while ago saying the forum needs more civility, you don’t really practice that yourself at times.
