LIVE GAME Trial 2 V Roosters..

Live Game Discussion
Musgrove deserves a shoutout, people started turning on him because he wasn't playing but he's shown he's a good prop when he's on the field - fingers crossed no injuries for him this year.

Had a good game and deserves a spot in our 17 come round 1, maybe even starts with Tamou out.
He's a good prop when he can get into his groove, which is still far too inconsistent. Last week Manly muscled him and he was hopeless. Last night Roosters gave him some latitude with junior opponents and he grew dramatically into the game - clumsy early runs and defence became barnstorming bumps and hits.

Very typical Tigers, you never know what you are going to get with Musgrove, but when he's on fire he's very hard to handle. I suppose Madge thinks he's a bargain buy given all his baggage, that Madge can ultimately get results out of him (having also debuted him at Souths).

Going off of last nights’ efforts… am willing to give both Muzza and Madge benefit of the doubt… TRY to reproduce the results with some actual similar environmental factors around them at the club and keep him on the straight and narrow off-field. Will it happen?

I assume we will see Rua quite a bit more this season. Glad that he is a massive fan of the club.

We need to hold on to him and it is very interesting w Api coming next year where he will play as we already have Simpkin. I assume Liddle is gone.

Whatever, we can't lose him like we've lost Aloiai, Leilua, Tuilagi, Tatola etc.

Api was probably bought as a stop gap to ease Rua into first grade

Not sure what I think of the Liddle/Simpkin experiment anymore, but we'll definitely end up losing one of them..maybe both
I'd be surprised if we kept Liddle, only got one more year left on his deal and he'll probably want more opportunity elsewhere.

What about developing him into a lock.
We lose Liddle and Simpkin's / Rau are back ups and in about 2 years time when peach is off contract he could take over the 13.. He is B Smith clone without a doubt and just runs hard and can pass very well. Fitness will come with time

Anyone notice Hastings is not overly small .he certainly will take alot of pressure of brooks .
Jez brooks 5th tackle kick options continued on from last year
Loving the RUA
Yeah Hastings is what 95 kg? There was a telling point early in the second half where he looked to shift, his outside backs weren't in a good position, so he took the run. The Roosters backrower copped him a good rib shot and drove upwards so he couldn't go to ground. A second defender got his waist.

But rather than fall backwards to ground he copped the first hit, braced for the second and wrestled forward, ended up making a small amount of ground and avoiding a dominant tackle.

It is rare for a half to be able to take a hit from two forwards and still wrestle over the advantage.

Im not dirty on James Tamou.

It was a great effort to charge doen the kick that was miss timed.

I respectbthe effort shown by the big man.
Yeah I think everyone could tell he got it all wrong and was immediately apologetic and regretful, even though he actually came worse off because he copped the kicking knees to the head.

There was a lot to like about last nights trial game.....I have said what my summation of the game was last night, however,I would just like to mention Peachey,he was good in the first trial and he definately isnt a 9,but last week he played in the 13 and seemed comfortable...he maybe trying to hard to impress atm but he is definately a talent when in the right position with ball in hand.....give him time to settle in and we will see what Madge thinks his value could be.
I think he will be an asset while here...I recall some members said Hastings had baggage and ESL doesnt compare to our NRL....he sure did show a few NRL standard players up last night...and I think Daley said last night that he could be the best Marquee player the Tigers have got....
Go Jacko....he could be the link that strengthens this teams chain .....
I think both Peachey and Hastings have showed good signs. Peachey was guilty of overplaying his hand in the conditions last night and doesn't look a great option at hooker, but I think he'll make a good lock. He'll bring some x-factor that we've been lacking in the middle.

Pretty sure that one of the commentators (maybe Benji) state that he was a big body at 103kg.

He's a Tigers junior.

Good article here :

Played for the Campbelltown City Kangaroos...

Played union and league.
Does mention the doggys are his fav team tho.
The article was from 10 years ago😂
You would think Dogs aren't his favourite team anymore. (Unless he's been hanging around Tamou and Daine too much!)

Some good game summaries and thoughts posted here, so I’d just like to add a few points:
I haven’t been a big fan of Madden but thought that was his best outing so far. Impressed with Toa and Dias as well. Seyfarth and Musgrove also looked far better.
Even JTJ looked OK.

INTENT - is my one word to summarise that effort, and if we keep that up we’ll win more than half our games.

That is really dangerous’: Tigers skipper cops ban for horror tackle on Roosters gun

Wests Tigers co-captain James Tamou is set to miss the first round of the season after being handed a one-game ban (if he accepts an ealy guilty plea) for a nasty tackle on young half Sam Walker.

The 19-year-old was in the motion of kicking when the Tigers veteran flew in, taking out his legs in the air only 12 minutes into their pre-season clash.

Ennis carried on like it was as bad as the Hoppa hit on Keith Galloway back in the day. Ennis is an absolute dribbler, cannot stand him at the best of times but in commentary he is diabolical.
Maybe if Walker learns to not ponce about and ballerina himself 3 feet into the air after kicking, ala Mitch Moses, then he would've got hit waist-high last night. After his poxy game-ending run last year where he ran half the length of the field backwards to run the ball into touch he deserves a beat-down.

Funny how Tamou gets suspended but Collins got off for his cowardly tackle on a held opponent. Hopefully the goober cops a tackle like that himself soon👍.
Seems that the match review Muppets can't remember Seyfarth having his season ended last year for a similar coward tackle. Rules for some and rules for others in this comp😡.

Yes he does make good yardage pity most of them are sideways.
I do like his dirty hit ups in our red zone.

His defence in the 1st 2 trials looks to have changed.
He has stayed inline and marked up. Against Manly the 2 tries scored weren't on him. Try 1 Paugua was beaten but Lucy didn't hold firm either. 2nd try Paugua was down and Manly had an overlap.
Against the Roosters the 1 drive they made his side Nofo held his position - inline with his inside men and marked up, this allowed JTJ take the lead and then come in if needed which he did and saved a try.

His runs also in both games seemed to be more direct which is positive. If he can run more direct we will be in alot better place to start our sets. He is such a key for us.

Tiger that was a great summation as I've watched it twice also and can't fault your comments.
The game was played with gusto and considering the atrocious weather I thought it was skillful.
You sound like you've played footy so you'll know that it requires a good technique in passing and catching a slippery lead weight.
Peachey tried to throw some long out balls which were disastrous. In the second half we played more wet weather type footy with Madden deft kicks and short passing game.
Big ken is not a wet weather player but made up for it with his relieving hitups.
The down side for me is To'a might get squeezed out, he is a “footballer”

To'a I intentionally didn't mention as we just haven't seen enough of him yet but there was one moment he got the ball and blasted past Momo which made me think - wow we might actually have a speedy/punch/decent sized back. I don't think he will be starting round 1 unless injury happens.

I think he is one that if he can have an injury free run, with more consistent gametime he will prove to be very valuable for us. He just needs miles in the legs.
