LIVE GAME Trial 2 V Roosters..

Live Game Discussion
Just confirmed some ones post....

That's a bit different as they're all from England.

Can see you're angle... however, these pair are Tamou are constantly reminding us they love Penrith.

Luke showed love to Oli , not the Tigers.

If you're OK with it you're OK with it.
Some of us are not.
Once we get our junior pipeline pumping again, it's an issue we won't have to worry about.

I don't see Laurie getting renewed with a rising Dillon.

Yeah, they probably live in the area.
Nothing better than some live footy.

Just is a bit distasteful to us fans.
I personally don't care. There are always players from other clubs at matches, you see them all the time. You are allowed to support your mates and still be committed to your current club; I think fans are too sensitive about it.

Or more correctly, I think some fans are being naive about what a modern footballer is, often less of a clubman and more of a self-brand. Penrith in particular, such a big nursery, there are going to be lots of guys with long shared histories but playing for different NRL clubs.

Madden looked in the last 15 but it is fact the first 40 minutes is a much tougher game. The intensity was high for a period of time.
I think Madden has looked good for about 15 mins total, in first-grade company. Not that he can't make it, it's just every time I see him play for any decent period of time he starts to struggle.

E.g. the trial, he was obviously sent on with a mandate to run and press the attack, but as you noted the Roosters had already been very softened up over the first ~65 mins of the match, and had subbed on many of their greenest players. E.g. Vic Radley had been subbed off and he's a prime halfback killer in defence.

I think Madden is a decent backup but over 80 mins against seasoned big footballers I just don't think he has the toughness yet to be a permanent first-grade fixture.

Re players posting pics about other players:
It's nothing new.
Players have socialized with opponents since Adam was a fullback.
Newsflash: ordinary people even do it.

Have you ever heard the stories of the two club town, Port Macquarie?

Not much socialising going on between those two clubs.

Got inner west gang brawls spilling out from the field into car parks due to rival teams having gang members in them....

Nothing new but neither is this stuff either.

You could say the exact same for Liddle though, and he's contracted for less time and he probably feels more deserving of regular first grade considering his age and time in the game

Good chance Simpkin/Liddle plays off the bench while Korisau starts and Simpkin is probably going to be more comfortable doing that than Liddle

Liddle has also been at the club for 7(?)ish years as opposed to Simpkins 2ish....
We've barely run 2 hookers up until now - Why would we buy an origin hooker and then start all of A sudden start carrying a spare into a game?

Seems to be the norm these days.

Melbourne, Cheese and Grant.
Roosters, Verrils and Radley.

I've been one of his biggest critics. I've watched him play a couple of times in reserves and I didn't think he was very good.

He plays though in one of the most complex positions in the field. If anyone is a quarterback on the field it's the organizing half. Sometimes it takes players time to develop.

He was really good in that trial. He could come good.

Let’s be honest Roosters were awful. So much dropped ball while missing half the team of superstars. Hastings excellent interview after the game identified this. Very level-headed.
Still, beating the Roosters is awesome, even if it was a trial.
I still think our best game last season was the Manly trial!
Anyway, good signs. Hope they reward those young guys who really were dynamic and breathe new life into this team.

Exactly BS, I thought the energy in defence was great - Always looking to push them back.
If we play like that every week - We'll win more than we lose...

It's only a trial and the Roosters were missing plenty, But it's a stronger Roosters side than the one that was playing for a playoff spot last year...

I agree, Usually though it's a Lock / Utility - Not 2 specialist Hookers...
I don't see Liddle or Simpkin in that sort of Role...

Although, Liddle has played there before and done better than Ok...
With Peachey now, I just can't see either of them doing it...

We started running two hookers last year and were better for it - our current hookers can't play 80 and Korisau also doesn't play 80 much at all

Game has gone past 4 forwards on the bench. At least we have plenty of options at hooker, hopefully the club doesn't stuff it up

So too was his defence. 2 try saving tackles in the same set on King and Kiegren.

Brooks really has a go. He puts his body on the line defensively, his running game can be good, his support play can be good and he come up with a nice play every so often. We saw a lot of that at the trial.

The problem is when he reached out and lost the ball. It's those type of plays you want to see out of his game.

He also has competition for his spot this year. Hastings, Doueihi and even an improved Madden.

That’s the subtle type of pressure and motivator that most players need to produce that extra 3%. Having a suitable replacement. Our succession planning has been pretty average since Sheens left.
I thought that reach by Brooks was a sign of how desperate he is to succeed, but you’re right, something you’d expect from a younger player.
I’m really looking forward to our spine being settled and playing some good football this season.
