I can guarantee you, If (and it's a big if) he's playing rep footy - It won't be at 6...
(Unless you're counting Lebanon)

I've seen enough to know he's destined for the back row, And with the log jam there he won't be a rep level back rower.

Russell Richardson? had a couple good seasons at Sharks. Played a couple test matches then got a big contract at Souths but couldn't make their first grade team. I think at one point he couldn't make their reserve grade team and was playing park footy on a first grade contract.

Why do you only mention the players that worked out well.

Matterson played in a grand final before signing here. BJ played centre in the grand final for Canberra before coming here. Then you have Adam Blair, James Roberts etc.

this is what i thought as well, and why i dont believe this one. Manly will keep Sione around the club in order to keep the other 4 happy there.

Fainu makes sense. NSW U/18 player of the year a couple of years ago, close with Lambkin and has his pathway blocked by a logjam in his position. very similar signing to Blore/Laurie/Kepaoa. I like it and it ensures we're not rushing any of the kids in Flegg.

But signing him for this year? When we still have those guys contracted wouldn't make much sense. When we still have such a glaring weakness in the squad in the back row.

If you note I separated quality 5/8 and rep player with a comma.

I honestly didn't think of them - Forgot about Blair, However - I don't think he was that good at any club after the Storm. So weather he was quality or just did a job at the Storm is open to debate.
I could argue Roberts hasn't played decent footy in a couple years.
The others weren't around long enough to jog my memory...

Although I note you've only listed 2 Centres (Since 2005 - Both let go while contracted from their previous club) And 2 Backrowers (Since 2009) That we've recruited... There may be a sprinkling more of them - I can't think of any.

It's 2 positions we've seriously neglected forever....
It needs to change.

It was well documented at the time he was only signed for about 350k a season which is why it kind of made sense. Tigers lacked leadership and experience up front and he was the current captain of a team who got beaten in a GF. We haven't cashed in with him given his output however you can't fault the club for thinking he'd offer something we lacked at a reasonable price.

There was also a story that the week after he signed and we played the Dogs, after the game told Tolman that Tolman was wearing his jersey. Fast forward a year, and the Dogs moved Woods on and Tolman kept his spot. Then fast forward again a couple of years, they both find themselves at the Sharks, and again Woods gets moved on and again Tolman retains his spot.

agree with you that our back row stocks are horrendous, but it seems as if our recruitment has been with an eye on the future. if Fainu is an important part of our roster moving forward then it's best to get him in as early as possible.
