I think Thurston showed in his last season how far you can fall off the cliff by playing a year too long. That was sad to watch. Kind of like Ricky Ponting at the end of his career.

Nope don’t think Cleary would do much better than Reynolds.
Penrith will still win games without Cleary, but will Broncos win games regardless of their 7?

I certainly understand that you think that way. You’re right Cleary is a better half, but Penrith are a far superior team. I don’t think the old adage, one man can make a difference applies in this case when the two te@ms are worlds apart.

PJ unless Brooks and Hastings absolutely smash it i think hastings will be tried at ½ and AD ⅝, otherwise it may finish year as it is in Round 1 except AD at C and To'a to replace anyone in the backline not firing thereafter, imo

AD went well at souths around good players, I think Brooks in a better team would go well.
Together the combo doesn't work too well hoping Hastings can be that link man the foil that is needed
I like starford. Think he's a keeper.
Imo the Brooks experiment will end a few games after AD gets back. Madge might carry Brooks on the bench as a back up 9 or dump him.
Happy to be proven wrong. We need some kind of value for all the coin we've dished out.

I think with Hastings, the game seems to be going back with some clubs adopting a smaller lock. We saw it last year with Connor Watson at Newcastle, and Kurt Mann this year. Cam McInnes is another. Hastings is that same kind of player who could fill that type of role.

PJ I'm a Brooks fan but I'll concede that now we have the troops we can't accept lackluster performances or poor decision making.
To'a is a classy fast and athletic footballer, even though he hasn't played a lot of 1st grade he cant be a worse defender than Roberts.
I also think we're not getting Daine involved properly and that can be attributed to disfunctional halves. Could AD Play fulback and Daine in the centres, has Ken M played centres so To'a plays wing?
Noffa has to improve in D so he could have a stint in reges..
I guess these variables mean there is competition for spots now but Madge is running out if time to experiment and save his skin.
Did we do enough experimenting in the trials?

The fact that’s he is a shit halfback is basically a given. But following on what @PJ said, even if you didn’t think he was complete shit, after 8 seasons of subpar play plus missing finals, management surely have what to answer for.
As far as I’m concerned, the board’s and management’s indifference to our lack of competitiveness is no more evident than in their decision to keep Brooks. It is more than just mismanagement, it is a breach of their duties to act in the best interest of the club.

I think outside Reynolds, their recruitment was quite poor. I know you can’t really buy too many other marquee players if you spend a million a year on a halfback (well the Roosters can 🤷🏻♂️), but but besides Capewell (overrated imo), and Ryan James (over the hill), theres not a lot to excited about.
