The missing 70 seconds

It's not a dead ball situation though, we're in the process of attempting a shot at goal. The clock didn't stop after the Titans try was awarded, or when they were lining up to take their shot at goal.

The change was implemented that the clock would stop when a team was walking back to halfway really slowly after the other team scored. So after the ball goes through the posts time is stopped. Only after 80 seconds of lining up for a kick can the referee stop the clock.

Also the rulebook says the clock should have continued.
The rule book talks about 1 min 20 from when a penalty is awarded to when a kick is attempted but doesn’t say anything about time being called off for an injured player and when it is restarted. It’s a grey area in the rules.

We had the lead already. Just had to run out the clock.
Taking the two is only beneficial in this scenario if it puts us two scoring plays ahead.
Game should have ended 4-2.
We could use "we should have" every week eh?

Yiu know what we should've done but who predicts an arsy kick off the posts?

You cannot say we should've done anything as you do not know the outcome

I'm just frustrated mate.
Our halfback has no aggression and doesnt have the confidence to back himself. Most NRL halfbacks would back themselves to set up a try.
One can dream.

Come on Ink admit it, you know yourself that we were always going to find some way to lose that game right at the death regardless of the option that we chose with 3 or 4 minutes to go.

It's in our dna, it is written.

Zero game awareness from Brooks, he should’ve stalled the kick once he realised it was time off
I just watched it again and he did, Brooks even appeared to ask the ref why the clock was stopped and he said it was inside the final 5 mins. I can't see anywhere in the rules that states the entire time preparing for a penalty goal is off the clock in the final 5 mins. Unless there's been some sneaky update to the rules without any public notification the ref got it wrong.

h my mistake, was watching at a venue with the sound down.

Still: punt him.

I think it was a coaching decision. Someone said Robbie told him to do it and I doubt Robbie made that decision himself.

The call is made in the box (coach) and relayed to the trainer Via radio (Robbie) who tells the players on the field. I can't believe some of you are talking about the goalpost being the reason we lost haha. We shouldn't have gone for 2.

If you've got Foxtel go back in the archived games to Round 1 this year and watch Moses kill the clock after a penalty in the last 3 minutes. It was beyond pathetic, he was allowed to actually just stand there watching the clock run down on the scoreboard. The commentators even got the shits with it.

Didn't realise that's what happened. I was frustrated at Brooks because he seemed to rush the kick instead of taking time.

As for those saying he shouldn't have taken the 2, you'd expect your team to defend 3 minutes if you've held them tryless for 77 minutes.

Yeah, I heard Cam Smith say the same thing in the comms box too. Trouble is you give them a chance to retain the ball with a short restart which we always seem to lose. I didn't realise the time issue until I read this thread - that being said, if it was an issue, I would have expected Madge to address it. He never goes into bat for the club. 0-7 ('21/'22) with a tough draw coming up.

I'm more worried about the 80 mins of my life i lost watching that steaming turd of a game.
There is more and more games like that in the modern version of NRL. Not usually that low of a scoreline which exacerbates the fact but there are many games of boring footy dished up in the last year or 2. It will only get worse IMO.

Just as an aside, given the detail of the "lost seconds" around the kick etc - is there anything being done by the club to get an explanation from NRL H/Q?

what for? to waste time? it will not make a difference at all coz all they will say is "sorry" and it still doesn't change the result of the game which sux

what I or we want is for Madge to blow up in the presser and that hopefully will get everyone's notice, I think doing it quietly or nicely asking them will not make a diffirence... such is their bias

I watched and was yelling at the TV (as i usually do) regarding the clock being stopped. I haven’t seen that same situation with the ref not restarting the clock, happen in a game before.
Also, did anyone notice what was wrong with the disallowed try early in the game. Was that ruling correct?? The interchange between Brooks and the ref was outrageous.
