It’s possible, and probable that Gould said all of that stuff. One of the problems we had back then was with a certain player manager and more likely the reason we lost some good players contrary to what Ivan told us, we couldn’t afford them, because we spent as much of the cap replacing them.

Phil Gould has urged Ivan Cleary to think deeply before joining the Wests Tigers.

And then the other article written about the same time.

Phil Gould says it was tough to sack Ivan Cleary but he'd be great for Wests Tigers

You're right TF, although there appears some conflict between the two articles the obvious advice was don't sign with the WT.

Then Cleary signs and leaves prematurely and leaves us with a even bigger mess,

Then the courageous Madge signs but many people are upset with him for not cleaning the big mess in the house in just 5 mins. when it would take any good cleaner to clean the house in several hours with the help of proper assistants.

Cleary was apparently sacked for burnout and fatigue, which seems an odd thing to me? Why wouldn’t he be given support rather than the sack? Anyway, he was in between coaching jobs for around a year, don’t know what he did during that time? I know when Sheens was sacked from the Cowboys he studied sports psychology
Then Benny Elias called offering a coaching job. He won a premiership within a couple of years. So too did Ivan, and he’d never won one before. Moral to the story..get yourself sacked and have some time off. 🤣

Cleary worked as a part-time consultant for the NRL who was hired by Todd Greenberg to assist with match review, judiciary and refereeing issues.

This was why it was mentioned last season during a fued between Cleary and W Bennett after the Rabbitohs beat the Panthers,

When Cleary suggested the officials had been influenced by Bennett's comments prior to the match. Then saying, "The NRL has got to make a decision on whether they're going to allow coaches to deliberately manipulate referees and try and influence them."

Bennett then responded about his enquiry by saying,
"If that's manipulating the game, you're all kidding yourselves,

Bennett then suggested his original enquiry to the refs was leaked due to Cleary's relationship with the officials.

"He worked for them. He worked for the referees before he went back to coaching. I've got to assume he's still got some mates there still,"

I love listen to Bennett talk he’s a comical genius hahahaha really miss his press conferences this year

A new coach may just get us some improved performances, jag a few wins and have the team play an attractive/expansive style of footy as a positive build up for next season. He may also have the opportunity to review the rooster moving into 2023. I cannot see any downside to changing the coach after this start to the season (and this is his fourth).
If we go 0-7 or even 1-7, then we have hit rock bottom and no one can blame anyone for losing belief. As much as I hoped, and still do really, that Madge can get the team to lift, it has been too long a wait. If we are 0 or 1 win from 7 rounds then there is definitely an upside in replacing the coach - namely there may be some hope with someone else at the helm. More of the same cannot be entertained as an option anymore - over 3 years is long enough. Who knows - we might start to win some games. I just want to feel HOPE again.

0-7 seems pretty likely. I can’t see us knocking off the Sharks, Parra or Souths.

Every team that has made knee jerk reactions as a result of a tough time at the club hasn’t had any more success than their predecessor.
Look at the Raiders, Eels, Manly, Roosters for sticking by their coach during these tough times. Then see the Dragons, Bulldogs, Broncos, Warriors.

Arthur is an interesting comparison. Went 10th, 12th, 14th, 4th, 16th before becoming a finals staple.
Took them a few years (and a few illegal paper bags) to build a strong team, but they eventually got there.

We are on the right track then.
What is it, 9th, 11th, 13th, ?
I think we can scrap 4th this year though.

Well at least on the first 3 years we are doing better than Brad Arthur. We are better by one position 3 years straight and if we go on a run starting with the Sharks this week then 3rd is not at all out of the question, which would then continue that trend.

….
We need players that dont fade. Were almos there in terms of a decent foundation.

See 2022 through and build into 23 and beyond
I think that was always going to be outcome in reality.

It’s a young side too and watching Jock come on a bit has been good.

Given the injuries and suspensions, the relative youth of the side, the lack of marquee, a lot of the losses this year against some good sides tend to be closer to the acceptable range.

The sharks game, I thought it was as much about our errors, things we can eventually fix.

If we could minimise our errors, we could still turn out this year.

Why can't Sheens coach us for 2 years? Bennetts nearly the same age and he is still coaching? Get some systems in place with Morris his assistant groomed to take over.
