The thing is though Madden this past couple of weeks has basically been taking all the responsibility because Brooks hasn't.

I don’t feel that is out of desire, more so an instruction.
I thought since game 1 this year our focal point or our field set up had been more akin to open side from right to left not round the other way (meaning Brooks controls the blind and chimes in more than controls the open).
Bit of change of direction from having players wrap around Brooks in past years.
Losing Hastings, we probably wanted to continue that shape with Madden as the alternative halve but not go away with what has been worked on in the off season.
If you look closely enough you’ll see what I mean.
However and I hate repeating it but until Madden came in these last few games we were still relying on Brooks’ kicking game.
Hastings has recorded 90 kicking metres in 2 games. Last time he was a half in the NRL he was posting 72 meters a game. Big difference from the 250 / 260 kicking meters from Brooks and Madden.
Does anyone have any insight from his Wigan days to counter this point?

Well atm it's just 1 - Tamou - cos Douehi injured, Peachey & Ken dropped & Brooks position change effectively demoted as main player maker. So I'd say Hastings is probably the Captain when Tamou is off.

Well atm it's just 1 - Tamou - cos Douehi injured, Peachey & Ken dropped & Brooks position change effectively demoted as main player maker. So I'd say Hastings is probably the Captain when Tamou is off.

Madge is a fool for not installing Hastings (Captain) and Joffre (vice captain) on a permanent basis for the rest of the season.

He has never made changes to this volume before and dropping 2 captains to reggies just highlights how poor a judge he is on the quality of his players because both have been terrible this year. At least now we only have 2 captains on the field, 1 of which is bloody lucky IMO to be there.

Brooks is very very lucky. Against Moses might of saved him this week.

Putting Madden on the bench is just dumb. Feel for him as he was having a go and trying things when he got the ball. Halves need to get a feel for the game not come on as an impact player. It also means for Madden to play Hastings will move into Hooker or another position taking him away from being an effective ball runner.

That team makes absolutely no sense.

There is literally NO cover at all for positions 1-5 in the event of injury.

I think it is a smokescreen and Madden will be 6 / Peachey 14 (covers backs and 9).

Brooks gone altogether.

It does not make sense to have absolutely no cover 1-5.

Moving Brooks to 5/8 is pointless. He should have been dropped and Madden should be given the reigns at halfback.

Madden has a higher ceiling than Brooks and the club should be investing in his development.

I really hate the fact that we continue to have a third prop in the lock position. It’s an outdated tactic and we need some speed/creativity in the pack instead of single, one out hit ups.

I cant believe some of the crap from some on here....We needed change,players need to be dropped,Brooks to the bench and on it goes....Madge is trying all he can to field a competative side,he has bugger all in the depth dept....and all you lot can do is whinge....
Good luck WTs at least the baggage has been dropped and some heart installed....

Hastings was always coming to play 7, whether the brooks fan club want to admit it or not. Let’s see brooks as a running 5/8. Hopefully he is moved to number 9 if it’s not working . And if that doesn’t work then left right out.

The jungle drums are beating. If the Eels declare at halftime, Madge won't last the week. Not convinced that JTJ is fully fit - Ken clearly is not.

Hastings at 7 is the right call. Brooks should have been a running 5/8 from round 1.

Ken looked uninterested and lazy. Garner in the centres is still a bit concerning.

We still have Douehi to come back and also big Stef. Plus next year Api and Papali'i. So even with no new signings our team next year could look something like this...
