Okay I’m not sure why you think this is useful or helpful. We were having what I thought was a mature, reasoned conversation. Apparently I was mistaken that you were capable of this. My mistake I guess.Come in spinner 😂 I said “on the surface it would appear” and you make false assumptions that I’m being negative about your beloved ALP. 😂
It was set up for BHP.
Mate I dont know, but from what I read they try to use the weather as a weapon and also push the climate change agenda so that we pay more in the future...Our seasons and weather have been in cycles for centuries, they are trying to manipulate things to try and convince people that climate change is going to wreck the planet and people fall for it...
Granted there may be some years where the weather is erratic, but its basically been the same for hundreds of years...
I gave you that info so you could read and see that these things are happening and Im not going to argue that Im a tin foil hat guy...its info I came across so you would at least see that it happens....
I’m not calling out anyone.
Its a fact, unions are for the weak.
For mine, unless you're a business owner, you should sign up to a union.
I've worked at plenty of places where the owners or management try their best to screw workers over through pressuring them into putting up with unsafe workplaces or policies/procedures that are blatantly illegal. Not everyone has the time to figure out if these breach the conditions of their award or FWA.
Unions aren't perfect, in my dealings, they are always able to offer some support and will often step in when things go really pear shaped.
I've successfully stuck up for myself in workplace disputes before but I'm still always a member of a union and encourage my co-workers to join up. Even if I don't need to call on the union for help, I'm happy that they're sticking up for worker rights or other people.
And I don't buy the assertion that unions are for political wannabes etc.
You only need to look as far as our PM and his history with taxpayer funded bodies with close proximity to politics (in his case, Tourism Australia) to see that ladder climbing happens across the political spectrum - just with different types of organisations.
100%.Most people have figured out by now that I'm reasonably left leaning on social issues and some economic issues as well, but I cannot stand the unions. I am sure they do good work here and there now, and I absolutely recognise that they were once a very important part of workplace relations in securing good work conditions like a 40 hour week, leave entitlements and the like, but they have done nothing in my industry and have been totally ineffectual aside from ensuring that awful tradesmen earn as much as the good ones.
When you really needed them no one was to be seen, but when your dues were not paid you could bet your arse they would know about it and when someone wanted grass roots support for climbing the ladder internally they would make themselves known.
100%.
When I was younger, we were forced to join them. You couldn’t get on big commercial sites without your card. The gates were manned by bikies in CFMEU gear. They stood over the workers and belted ten shades out of desenters.
Fast forward a couple of decades and not much has changed. The physical assaults have receded but the mentality remains. They’ll take your money, they’ll chase you for it. But as a toothless tiger, they do nothing for you except draw out negotiations for EBAs and big note themselves.
Sad to say the Unions (IMOE) are these days more about playing their politics than helping their members - even when their members were forced out of their jobs.🤢100%.

Good post Demps. The travel insurance is a great attraction. I often mention it to non-members and it results in a positive response.Apparently we were all once covered, driving to and from work....
This all changed one day.
Being in a union has its perks such as travel insurance, which covers you whilst travelling to and from work....
I've been in a union for 10+ years and haven't used them once.
I use their discounts/rewards system though and like knowing I have that travel insurance.
People think it's just automatic... like we're all entitled to it.Good post Demps. The travel insurance is a great attraction. I often mention it to non-members and it results in a positive response.
