Politics Super Thread - keep it all in here

I'm surprised to be honest the amount of division amongst people, and that includes this forum with lack of respect for others views.

If someone likes Scomo, thats their choice. I someone likes Albo, that's their choice. If someone likes independents, thats their choice. If someone wants to draw a penis on their ballot paper, thats their choice too. Its a right of freedom in our very lucky country.

Discussing the issues is one thing, but claiming someone else is wrong because they share a different view, have a different life perspective, have different reasons or place different values or priorities on certain things is just divisive.

The joys of a relaxed country which is a far more genuine democracy than most.!

Even when some one states what they claim to be a fact.....you might know it is completely false. Respectfully point out what you know and help educate your fellow man. If they take your advice/learnings, then good for you. If they dont, that is their choice - and it's not wrong either. There is no need to repeat repeat repeat. If its not taken on the first respectful occasion, move on. Politics is just so devisive at the moment for some reason, overseas and in Australia. Is it social media and everyone thinking their opinion is worth more than others or something?

One thing is for sure, if you take a moment to be happy, respect others, be polite, caring and kind, our country will be far better regardless of who is running the country.

Yeah I'm sure all those university-educated engineers, doctors, actuaries and the like are all "completely closed minded, indoctrinated and dangerous". Idiotic anti-intellectualism at its finest...
They know their craft. That’s not the point. Thankyou for showing your simplicity and ignorance though. Couldn’t have presented it better.

Well said Swordy, unfortunately through these last 2/3 years of tough times for most, the good people of Aust have found that there are always 2 kinds of people, the vax program is a highlight...I honestly think that the MSM and social media is to blame for most of it...An example of this is that I walked into the supermarket yesterday, only one person wore a mask in the whole store,a really nice lady asked the person why she needed to wear a mask when the mandates have been lifted, her answer was, because people that dont wear a mask can make me sick, their the reason that we will never get out of this pandemic....I laughed to myself and just walked on...
I have noticed though that in any kind of conversation of late whether in the club, pub or on here,if you have a differing opinion to others, its more aggression that is shown in the conversation rather than sensible dialogue...(Im right your definately wrong type aggression)....
Any way to reiterate what you lastly said about being kind, caring etc....
There are but three words....

HOPE...FAITH...LOVE....
The greatest of these is LOVE....

I get what you’re saying but technically the legislation says you have to vote. If you take your ballot and throw it away in front of them the ballot is canceled. It’s more that the secret voting aspect makes it impossible to tell if people are indeed actually voting. In a strict technical sense if you signed a statement saying you received a ballot paper but then didn’t actually vote you could be fined under s245. Obviously it’s very unlikely to actually happen.

Wow, a 0.25% rise in interest rates lifting the cash rate to an astronomically usurous 0.35%. It's the end of Morrison, even worse, it's the end of civilisation as we know it.
How about we wait and see how far the banks hike their rates which is the real indicator. Plus this is only the first of a number of adjustments that will need to be made to slow inflation. I would think the modest hike was done to not have a major influence on the election. Will be interesting to see how high the next one goes.

Great example - of you being a hypocrite.

She could be immunocompromised for any number of reasons.

You have zero credibility when it comes to talking about social media and its deleterious effects on society, and even less than that when it comes to anything health related.

Hope this helps.

Malcolm Turnbull is encouraging Lib voters to back the Independents. Now who would have foreseen this outcome?
He is not alone. There are plenty of Liberal voices out there that are saying that the current leader and iteration of the party is not fit to govern.

Unsurprised that a former Prime Minister has come out to say as such, joining a former deputy leader and a chorus of others. Any reasonable look at their tenure, even a cursory one, clearly confirms their unfitness for office.

My feeling is that interest rates will be higher than anyone imagines in coming years.

Also QE is being recovered so a major contraction in money supply.

Inflation is one reason.

But the main reason is that the U.S. dollars reserve currency status is under threat because the people with PhDs that helped create their economic policies apart from creating the FIAT system they failed to give adequate considerations to what would happen if nations including other superpower countries like China and Russia as well as countries with large commodity bases reduce U.S. dollar trade.

U.S. dollar trade in 2007 was 70%. Nowadays it is under 50%.

Russia has announced it is moving to a commodity and gold backed currency by years end. China and the middle east soon after. Obviously, in that climate higher bond yields are required to make the U.S. dollar more attractive as a home for capital.

It is another reason that they are so zealous with regards the Ukraine war.

The architecture of America's financial system entails global hegemony.

Obviously that was a flawed outlook.

And our very own Costello sold most of Australia's gold in 99 at $250 U.S. an ounce.

He isn't on jobseeker but rather the head of the the future fund.

Turnbull what a flog
almost lost the unlosable election in 2016
The Libs need to do the opposite to what Turnbull says and they are in with half a chance

Not a fan of Gillard or Rudd or Keating but at least they knew detail and knew what they were talking about
Albo is an economic Moron and a policy moron, just no across the detail
It won't be easy under Albanese
