If you are right handed you want to play on the right side of the field. You carry the ball in your dominant hand and fend with the other, most people change direction better off the dominant side. Even kicking is better because the kicking leg and ball is behind the other leg and more protected when facing 45deg towards the sideline.Left, right it don’t matter if you can pass both ways. We want the player that can play on both sides.
By the way Aitken has been playing on the left this year.
But as I said it really only applies to halves who can benefit from being on the side that enables their dominant kicking foot to be facing away from the defence; For example; Brooks, Munster, Wighton.
