Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I know some people dont want nikora but he still hasnt signed yet with cronulla. Does anyone watch the Q cup .
Surely there are some young backrowers on the rise there ?

Sorry if I’ve offended. Whatever the number of posts on Brooks it’s been done to death and a signing suggestions and rumours isn’t the thread for it.
I am not offended and have you posted to much Brooks in this thread ?

Plan is not to spend too much $$ on the next second row.

We already have one of the best in the 600k range why would we spend more than that on the next one?
We shld take quality 1st graders at fair market price in any position where we are deficient...we simply just have so few of them in our 30

There are rumours his re-signing has stalled again. No announcement made yet.

Yeah I remember @THE_POM posting that a while ago too, especially when we need to be careful on how much % of the cap we dedicate to the backrow when in the next 1-3 seasons, we'll look to upgrade the likes of Tumeth, O'Kane, Kautoga, Matamua, Saukuru.

Personally I'd be happy with our further recruits for 2023 to be:

- Kade Dykes (backup fullback, half, could develop into anything)
- Luke Thompson or Joe Tapine (to replace Tamou as our experienced credentialed prop)
- Jackson Topine (as our backrow recruit to vie with Blore, can also play Lock, very talented & was an underage rep, good values too apparently so held in high regard, can see Madge liking him)
- Jackson Ferris (cover for centre, wing, back row; been forgotten about due to injury but was held in high regard at Sharks 2-3 seasons ago, a Nu Brown type comeback story)
- Nu Brown (utility)

If we can't land Dykes or Thompson for our 30th spot this season, we simply upgrade Brown or Pole this season.

Note - even though there is no star Centre in the above recruits, I have confidence in T'oa, Kepaoa & Naden moving forward (and no quality Centres available unless we get a contracted one like Tesi Niu that may not see a future at current club.

Because we can’t go into next season with one backrower , I can’t count blore until he comes back , and the young blokes won’t be ready , so u just want us to keep saying sorry we got this one for $ 600 so we ain’t paying u over that , good way to not having a top notch team

Don't panic

You would hope there are incomings, and not just young players going up.

Fonua Pole will come up, but based on what I have seen this season, he is years away from contributing much. Looks like a smaller Mikkaele.

Tamou
Garner
Luc
Mikaele
Tuilagi

None of them are big losses...but 'combined' that is a lot to lose / very little coming in at this point.

You would think Sheensy must have something up his sleeve.
An arm.

Getting worried about our backrow for next year. Papali'i is a great signing but we need another quality backrower to partner him. We're getting a bit thin there and there's not much on the market.
Can't be expecting much from Blore either after missing a whole season.

We need another one. Currently, there is not one player at the club who has his name pencilled in as a starting back rower in 2023. Think about that. Don’t say Blore. The good thing is the club at least recognises this and is actively looking for someone to partner Pap. We’ll hit on somebody as long as we keep looking.

Does anyone know how much cap we will have after everyone leaves and we count the two coming in , because there is no use having $ in the bank and no decent players .

There’s not as much as you think. Hastings will have to be increased likely this year as he is free to negotiate November 1. He’s reportedly on $350k which will chew up at least another 300k. Part of the reason we are no chance of keeping Madden as depth.

If the rumours are correct and we have now missed Bird, Hopgood, Nikora, Atkins, Angus C etc... it is really starting to become concerning. We are not going to get lucky like Papa again and get top players for under's.
We will be sitting there with shortage of players and all this money to burn like normal... For me we need to pay a little overs until we start WINNING and players want to come here... Sick of getting the left overs and also sick of relying on all younger players to develop.. We need a balance to be successful and help develop the younger ones.

Does the question need to be asked then...
We don't have anywhere near the quality of players the top clubs have yet we don't have much money to burn and have a younger roster on lower wages.. We have offloaded the overpaid players from the past so we must be overpaying internal players but not prepared to pay overs for external players.. Blows my mind
