This is such a multi faceted topic.
As far as I'm aware the NRL team's support staff are not limited by salary cap. Obviously we judge coaches as good or bad.
The fact is, the best coaches usually have the best support teams; ie; assistant coaches, head of performance, strength and conditioning staff, sprint coaches, physics, doctors, dietitians etc.
Top NRL coaches come with their own top team.
What I've heard about tigers:
We don't have a dietitian. We have many issues with poor treatment of injuries and rehab, we have an inexperienced performance staff, Madge has changed the performance staff multiple times, he has changed the assistant coaches.
That's a snapshot of footy.
Then there are the pathways to manage from Cup, flegg, ball, matts etc.
There's also recruitment.
Did everyone see the YouTube series on the panthers leading into the 2021 season? It's a snapshot of what a professional organisation looks like. They even had a segment with the dietitian design of the meals which were made by the chefs at the panthers club.
It just showed that it's not a level playing field in the support issues.
I'm sure the COE will address alot of these problems to help us compete down the track, but we are along way off the pace off the field with the top clubs.
Was it jack Gibson that said winning starts in the front office? The game got alot more professional in the last 3 years. It's fast and we are not keeping up.
