Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We had players like Fifita coming through and we went hard for Blair. He stuffed up big time.
I guess that’s a worthwhile call, Sheens felt it was time to break up the boys club. Happened to Manly also, sometimes tough calls need to be made.
In the scheme of things. That call was hardly a drop in the water to one the club made when they decided to reneg on Sheens contract 1 year into his 4 year deal.

Agree …. we have a very good core group of 15-20 players. We are adding very good recruits in API and Papi. Some of our juniors are showing real promise.
What we lack is motivation, enthusiasm, concentration and direction. Guess that’s on the Coach & support staff to teach and ultimately players to learn.
I can’t see either being implemented properly.
I have to pull you up on part of your post momo amp medo, agree with most...
"We lack motovation, enthusiasm, concentration and direction",if playing in the toughest Rugby league comp in the world, being paid big bucks or making the NRL top squad with everything given to you to succeed as well as the support of your fanbase and having the esteem and privilege associated with the NRL isnt enough for a player to be motivated, enthusiastic, concentrating on your job or know what direction your career is going....then maybe they should chose another JOB...
The only thing these wannabees have to do is their JOB and follow the game plan and structures given to them, they all know how to play the game, its not like they are u/6s..

We'll never know but you make a good point. We've been poor for a long time.

We don't have the same level of craziness under Madge's reign but we are still ordinary. We've only just gotten Mbye off the books. He has taken off at St George hasn't he ?

Agree ….. but ….. the real motivators like Bennet, Bellamy, Gibson and Masters etc. of this NRL coaching world ….. have the knack to turn around those unmotivated etc. Cattle and make them perform.
Thats the talent of real good coach as far as I’m concerned anyway.

Was it perhaps that the fatigue of our forwards in the second half and not the enthusiasm, concentration that was the cause of the wheels to fall off?

I don't know for certain about the differences in size and strength of their forwards and ours,
but to me there appeared to be significant differences between the two.

For the lighter weight forwards there is a limited time and then there can be no amount of
motivation, enthusiasm, concentration that is going to overcome the power and fitness of their opposing forwards.

Tom Burgess, ran for an incredible 235m and Mark Nicholls Jai Arrow and Kolomatangi were all solid and even their bench players, Havili 175m and Sele made 146m in just under 30mins ???

I believe that, having fit and larger heavier forwards would generally lead to greater team success.
Agree.
Every team could do with a wrecking ball backed up by athletic tough nuts. The closest we have to being a big body in motion is Lucy but he still lacks a bit of size and fear factor.
I'm all for having a JWH, Fafita...... size does matter, especially if it keeps on working 😁

We have our version of Payne in Stefano. He just needs to get healthy and increase core muscle mass.

I doubt we’ll sign Angus but that’s where we should throw our coin. He’s exactly the sort of second rower that’s proven he can lead with his 80 min performances and pack management.

What "version" Would that be - The Black & Gold version?

Stefano is an excellent talent, but bouncing back from ankle surgery isn’t an immediate given. He needs to lose a few kilos and strengthen his core to take the pressure off that ankle.

He‘s already proven that he can be representative level.
12 runs 132m in 30 minutes in the Warriors game where he got injured. He can do it for sure.

They are the same age and size...

Haas is a once in a generation prop averaging 180 and often going 250.

Stefano, who I like, has never averaged over 100. He is not anyone's version of Haas
Not every player matures at the same, some fall over after going gang busters to start off with.

The key is health, consistency, leadership and keeping your nose out of trouble.

Definitely can be elite.

But no one is going to be Haas. He is a once in a decade freak. He goes for 180 almost weekly.

Stef can hopefully be a 130 average...that would be elite.

You've nailed it but I also agree with Leck. We aren't getting Hass. Stef will have to do and he might be really good. Just don't compare him to Hass.

I also think Angus Crichton would be a perfect signing for us. We need elite level forwards and ideally an edge forward.
