Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You could see Tedesco would play for Australia in his first 10-15 games imo. Silly to compare him to anyone else as he’s miles ahead in the position.

I said after the Roosters trial in 2012 - I wouldn't swap him for Slater...
15 months earlier Roosters were runners up
It was that obvious then that he was beyond good - Made Mini look like Beau Ryan at fullback for one of his tries....

Here's a thought, If he stays on the field in 2012
- Do we make finals
- Does Gareth Ellis go home and not fill out his contract
- Does Sheens get speared
- Does where we are now ever happen?

History will never know....

Whilst I keep reading you suggest that Brooks would make a better fullback than a half, I’ll remain firm with my thoughts about Laurie.

Good comeback.

Laurie hasn't been good this year. I reckon Brooks is worth a shot there. What does Laurie do better than Brooks at this point in their careers ?

I'm not trying to hack Laurie either. He was good last week and I like the kid.

Teddy was up and down in 2013 (after missing all bar 20 mins of 2012) - came back via the wing, and was a bit inconsistent due to age, injury etc. He got called up for that City team after a handful of games of FG, was one of the most inexperienced ever to get a rep call up from memory.
He really started to excel in 2014 and beyond. Didn't play origin until 2016, but that was long overdue by that time.

Mate i do watch the games and i am relatively pleased with how he's playing and developing, but sometimes you just need to provide some stats to support your talking point.
I am sure you do. Try assists seems quite a random one to choose for a FB whose greatest asset is normally involvement. In a team struggling to attack. I’d be looking at the number of times he touches the ball or pushes up on a genuine offload opportunity if I was looking for a stat to display his progress. For mine his defense and positional play in defense are his big weaknesses.

Effort?
Have a look at the recent 3 2 1 thread v Souths, he was rated by nearly every poster.
And remember this for effort?View attachment 1272

You found one in how many games...
Go back and get a shot of every try scored against us - And see how often he's in the shot.

I don't need to look at peoples 321 opinions, Watching him plod across while those shifts were happening for the tries to the right edge show me all I need to know on his effort...

While you're there - Dig up all the shots of him backing up through the middle for a potential offload (Like all good fullbacks do)...
Again, He's not in the shot.

Laurie is still paying for that game with fans against the Warriors where he lost a contact lense.

He started the year slowly coming back from a broken leg, but right before he got injured again he was looking good and he looked very classy against Souths before the forwards crumbled.

Unless Tedesco or Paps are coming back we'd be mad not to re-sign him.

I don't hold that against any more or less than any of the other things I don't think he's up to scratch on.
There's plenty of teams with Fullbacks coming through, Plenty of teams with 2 already - we'd be mad not to explore our options and hang our hat on Laurie

Sloane isn't getting a gig at Dragons, Brimson and Campbell won't both play 1 at Titans
(Just a couple examples)

Mate - I'm not gonna draw you a picture...
Google it!! Far out...
- He was starting Fullback, With a heap of other players who played Origin
Siro played as well... Was at the game.
You're thinking when he came back from the second big Injury (2014-15 maybe)

I'm comparing Laurie based on all aspects of a Fullbacks game,
Age is a factor sure, Brimson, Paps are a similar age to DL and been stars for years now...
Campbell is a similar age also - Daine's behind him from my POV
Miles behind Walsh.... I can't think of any other young fellas.

Daines doing a job, But if he's not where we should be looking to as our ceiling in that position.
He lacks effort a lot of the time - And in that position... It's the foundation of your game.

My whole reply was to the notion that Tedesco wasn't really rated in the game before he played origin....
That's just rubbish!!
I’m not going back and forth in this. It’s just an opinion based on my observation of the current fullbacks at the top of the game and the timeline of getting there.
In terms of effort, since your such an astute viewer of Laurie’s game. Tell me how many times he in in the ruck prior to those plays saving the lumbering forwards bacon by having to involve himself in a tackle at the line.

Just depends on his asking price for me.

People complaining about Laurie don't watch alot of rookies come through the second year is always the hardest the first you run on adrenaline pumping in your body and the second year is mental and is the hardest the third is better Sheen's always said it's 50 games in you become a first grade player

I agree, I reckon he is getting better at backing up the middle though. So many injuries makes for slow progress, this could be said about a few.

Most of our players have shown they can play at NRL level on their day. The problem is the effort doesn’t continue the following play/set/weekend. This club lacks consistency when you look at just about everything.

Agree,
It seems likely that the inconsistency has a bit to do with their fatigue especially during the second half of the games.

It could be that the training methods are not entirely appropriate and as balanced as what they should be?
Hopefully this will be fixed soon when our maestro Sheens has completed his review.
