Michael Maguire leaves club

What are the pathways?
Is this the indigenous thing they were talking about last year?
Pathways are fluid, young men and women enter, leave, progress or remain at a particular stage according to their ability, maturity, dedication. Personal development, competition, training camps are often part of the process.

I cant believe the reactions to yesterdays decision.

Ive seen it all, handing in memberships, darkest day in our history blah fn blah.

If you are a supporter of the club first thing you do is wait and listen to why the decision was made and where they are headed.

Listening to Tim Sheens on multiple platforms the decision in his mind was the correct one.

For years we have all moaned about our players not delivering on their potential. Going to other clubs and shining. Buying players from other clubs who dont go to another level at this club.

im one of the few that maintain that we have always had the talent. Sure we ignored our pathways under a couple of coaches who made poor decisions but this club always produces talent.

Every season someone starts going on about the team you could make from all the players that have left the club.

A few months in the job and Tim Sheens has identified the reason for this club continuing to struggle.

DEVELOPMENT.

Maguire lost his job because he could not improve players and develop their game. We have seen Kelma hit the wall, Stefano level out, Simpkins under perform and many others that should have steadily improved go backwards.

Yesterday was a very important day in our history. We saw the light and made a very hard decision that needed to be made.

I look forward to our club returning to the days where we bring our juniors through and develop them into consistent and classy players. I trust the club to hire the right coach. They for the first time in this clubs history have everything in place to be successful. Yes its not a star studded team but as a franchise we now have the structure for success.

Hopefully when the dust settles all the sky is falling mob start to see the light and get back on board.
Great post, I supported Madge but this was telling. We are not a glamour club who will attract big stars, to some unfortunately this is a shocking statement. We are a development club, the only way we will succeed is developing our own like the Fultons, Farahs, Gibbs, Benji, etc.

Was a Madge fan as well. Still like the guy but i respect this decision. Its the right one.

Only way for this club to have success is to get the best coach to bring through the next crop. Simple as that.

So how have they changed from a couple of years ago?
The young blokes who have come into the team this year as replacements have been aweful.

Will be interesting to see where Maguire lands next. He’s probably the best available coach.
I agree. It's interesting for Madge, because if he is truly any good as a coach, and does still command respect, then maybe 1 of the other 2 clubs looking for a coach might be interested.

Better to be sacked when there are other vacancies, than when nobody is hiring.

He coaches the Kiwi team for instance, I wonder if it's a natural fit to try his hand at the Warriors. They need a hard worker, no doubt.

Exactly - Last year he expected results this year - Now he's sacked the coach he doesn't expect results for another 3...

I'm no mathematician, But how's that work? We're still the same club with a large portion of the same players...
When he got here he said he has a 3 year plan he’s been here for 8 months

1st year was look and identifie problems

2nd year was implemented changes to fix the problems

3rd year was make a push for the grand final

I don’t see how this plan has changed he’s brought it forward if anything

He ain’t talking about pushing for the grand final anytime soon.

He said he sacked the coach because we're not getting results.
Now he's saying he doesn't expect results for a few years...

How did he expect results this year if he doesn't expect them next year?
- I didn't with the squad we have (I would say most didn't)
And I don't know anywhere near as much about footy as Tim.

I hate comments like this . It’s such a self fulfilling circle jerk IMO . No disrespect.

Sheens looks old and worn out, already knows he’s made a huge mistake
Not sure why you keep bagging Sheens for how he looks. I'm guessing he's forgotten more about football than you and I have ever known. I think he's around 70 or a little over and he looks and sounds terrific. A little respect from you wouldn't be a bad thing.

He explained that he couldn’t see Madge been the coach in 2 years time so what is the point in keeping him around. there is key recruitment and retention decision to be made between now and the so it’s better to have the coach who is going to be there for the future to make the decisions

I understand what he said, Why he said it and why it's been done...
Even agree with it to a point.

Nothing you've said explains why there is now no level of expectation that we've sacked the coach.
If the coach isn't getting the expected results from the squad
How exactly does sacking him - Abolish any expectations the club has/had for this year and next?

The way coaches are falling, it wouldn't surprise me if he had a holiday while waiting for his next gig to see what else comes up? It does look like he would fit in at the Warriors though. His record with the NZ side is quite good.

I'm disappointed for Madge personally but even though I don't agree with the decision I can see a case for it but timing feels sketchy just before a run of Eagles, Dogs, Warriors where he could well have won 2 or 3
If those behind the decision haven't shored up the soon to be open to offers key players Hastings, Doueihi and Laurie and also our imminent arrivals and we lose any of them, they will be judged harshly and rightly so. Sheensy likely lives or dies on this outcome
I'm going to struggle big time to keep following them if Flanno comes to us though

Yep, I've always liked & respected Madge even as a player. Had been involved with the club for a while now & you wont find many who have been through more adversity in life then he has.
