Michael Maguire leaves club

Cleary had nothing to do with it. They’d already made up their minds to leave. All made the right decision too except for Woods. Absolute cock-up him leaving. A combination of him being an absolute airhead who believed he’d become bigger than the club, and some very bad advice being given to him. Could and should have been a one club player, yet will retire deservedly known as a drifter. I can see him trying to get back into the clubs good graces post-retirement by saying positive things about them. Very glad Madge shut the door on his return to the club this year. Let him flounder on 1 year contracts till he finally hangs them up.
Yeah, but he's about 31 and I'm 62 and I've worked hard all my life and bought a nice place near the water and he lives right near me. He's done alright, the bastard. I've probably got more injuries than him as well.

I have no doubt he’s fine financially. But as a player, he completely ruined his legacy by leaving. Would have gone down as a club legend, now he’s nothing to no one.

When we win 3/12 of our remaining games, was it still Madge? Or is that Kimmorleys fault? Or Sheens? Anyone else that the knobs in charge will blame?

Anybody who is involved in our "pathways" should be very nervous especially if we don't have any great players emerging shortly

That is the point isnt it? If our second half of the season is the same as the first and we lead into next year with the same coach, then why should anything be different in 2023?

I thought Madge was a fantastic replacement for Cleary, and it softened the blow of Cleary leaving, but in hindsight I was wrong. A coaches job is to bring the best out of and improve players. Madge could have had that team playing a lot better and be more than competitive but I struggle to come up with any players that showed any significant improvement under his coaching.

How many players have we developed over the last decade? How many have joined the club at Flegg or below, and gone onto a long and successful NRL career with us? Brooks and Nof would be about it, and most fans want them gone.
Players leave our club and then usually become better. It's because we don't develop players, they stay at the Same level or eventually go backwards. That's why we need a coach who can develop players.

Oh and Penrith are a development club, is that such a bad model to have?

no it is his squad but he was given $50 to spend.
What??

No.
Madge had a full cap to spend. He brought people on reasonable coin. BJ Leulia, Roberts (I believe were on 700k, decent figures), Tamou I think is on good coin. Hastings is on good but not great coin.

Last 2 years it has been Madge's squad and the Wests Tigers cheque book has been open. No we have not landed Mitchell Latrell or JAC and has probably made signing errors with the above players. So what.

The big problem is not the players we have signed but the skills the coach brings. Madge hasn't improved our defense, our grit/staying power and our attack has gone wonky.

Roberts was on nothing like 700k it would have been about 250-300 BJ probably 450-500k.

Sheens was irritated in his interview when a suggestion was made that Maguire did not have input into the buying of players.

So, does that mean Brooks is actually a better player than what we’ve seen? Can’t wait to see this.

madge bought his players he had his favourites and they let him down time to go Hopefully kimmorley changes a few things who knows he’s got nothing to lose I hope he plays a lot of young kids because A lot of the top side was to settled and knew they wouldn’t get dropped

Here, here.

I believe our "culture" issue was a beat up to deflect from the issue which has been dealt with now. There was nothing wrong with the culture when Cleary was coach or when WTs had players in motion and were playing expansive football.
Cleary couldn't get us into the 8 either, and his salary cap management was an outright atrocity. He is a shitty coach currently blessed with a superb roster, largely assembled before he got there.

It’s a pretty harsh call. he can clearly coach penriths game plans and structures are unbelievable
