Wests Tigers Coaches

I’m quoting Blocker a lot today haha. But anyway, he and Brenton Speed were taking during commentary today about the possibility of Ciraldo taking the job, Speed was alluding to “if” Ciraldo would take the job, to which Blocker claimed that a rookie would take any job on offer. As if. He’s the most sought after rookie coach in recent memory. He’s in a pretty rare position where he can probably hand pick which club he wants to take a chance on.
He also said Garner was "a superstar" at the start of the game.

The Wests Tigers will arrange to meet with Cameron Ciraldo this week as they up the ante in their pursuit of the Penrith Panthers assistant coach.

The Tigers have declared they want a development coach to replace Michael Maguire
and have identified Ciraldo as their No.1 target.
Tigers officials are aware of the Canterbury Bulldogs’ interest in Ciraldo and are keen to meet the 37-year-old to put forward their vision for the club.

Sources with knowledge of the situation told the Herald that Ciraldo sees plenty of upside at the Tigers given what has been done off the field to set up the pathways and the financial investment the club has made in its football department.

The big question mark is over the roster and whether the club can compete for a title in the next three years.

There’s no doubt the new coach will want to move on certain players given the way they have played in recent seasons. Sometimes that is easier said than done.

It will be up to Tigers director of football Tim Sheens to convince Ciraldo that there is a core group of players, both in the NRL squad and coming through the junior system, that is worth taking the risk on.

Another day another leak.

I think I know how this goes. It’s being set up.

“Wests Tigers miss out again”.

Pole was solid today. Matamua was pretty good too. Nu Brown was the stand out - he reminds me of Feliti Mateo. Peachey was crap. Simpkins is OK, better than Liddle / Brooks experiment. MOM for me was Topou. His acceleration on the left side was impressive and his try was very classy. He is getting more confident and still only 19.
You’ve named one prop and one backrower there.
We need to buy a few.

There is no easy answer as to WHO is the right coach for us. It’s just a lucky dip.
We missed out on some good coach options for various reasons including:-
1. Cleary was great but of course we couldn’t jag his son so he left,
2. Pascoe almost had Bennet signed but for complications with Broncos,
3. We could have picked Payton at that time but decided not to because …..
4. Madge was next best available at the time but as Sheens said a square peg didn’t fit into a round hole,
So we are now where we are and I think that if club decided that we need a development coach well then we are playing a long game so you just need to strap in for a long haul and hope that things work out on that front.
It also means that we don’t need a rocket scientist coach but a young talented coaching staff that can effectively communicate with young up and comers and develop their pathways into NRL level.

I believe that Ciraldo and Morris tick those boxes and have the ability and coaching style to attract young talented players to the club.

Everyone at this club from the chairman, the Board, Sheens and the support coaches and recruiters as well as we the fans want success on the field.….. and I’m sure every effort is being made to make sure that we achieve that as soon as possible.
They will need our continued support ….. it’s no time for a whinge fest. We need some bloody luck that’s all.
I remember all those years back sitting on the hill at Lidcombe watching the magpies get belted week after week …. and then a unknown called Masters, a schoolteacher with a bit of knowhow as to how to motivate and lead a young, untried but talented, tough, resilient, willing to listen and learn bunch of players ….
that was something to experience and enjoy.
So stay strong underdogs …. success will come.

If Tigers are a basket-case, I don't know what kind of storage apparatus Bulldogs are, but I agree it's bigger and worse.

Dogs are making all the older Tigers mistakes - rash signings, lack of pathways investment, lack of junior development, poorly-credentialed coaches.

I think there is a general consensus that whilst Tigers are still not able to make a dent on the finals race, the club has at least become stable and viable off-field, with an increasing number of positive investments that could be expected to pay off in the future - e.g. the CoE, the heavy investment in pathways, the increased Football Ops spending. There is a light at the end of the tunnel for the right person to guide the players.

For Bulldogs - I have no idea, they are just stumbling from error to error. They are probably 3-4 years behind us at least. I don't know if Bulldogs have even settled their Board split issues, where Lynn Anderson won the ticket a few years ago to take control of the old Board, then she herself was forced to step down in 2020.
Amateur lot the bulldogs board are.

Our board could teach them a few things about numbers so they don’t have to worry about pesky things like elections.

Hell would freeze over before Lee and our Board were forced to do anything, let alone stand down. That’s just unthinkable by our lofty and civilised standards.

The bulldogs problem is that they’ve still got this pesky little “accountability” problem to deal with.

Our board solved this problem years ago by making everyone else accountable except themselves.

It’s a life tenancy on our board.

They are doing such a good job that hopefully the board can introduce new rules so that their first born takes over their directorship when they die.

A long long time from now, I can imagine Lees grieving family having his Will read out, each one hoping and praying that they are not inheriting his spot on the board. It will be the only bequest in legal history that people will sue each other over not to receive!

As I said, Bulldogs board are amateurs. I pity their fans.

Meanwhile on the Titantic:

Whatever our concerns, we don’t have to worry about board churn on the bridge.

Everyone else is mugging each other for a spot on a lifeboat.

I’ll be ok, I’ve stolen @Merlot’s 3 year old kid who is a budding halfback.

I thought I saw the SS Pathways earlier, but she drew away heading east.

Seriously as if this squad, effort and structures which are all terrible would change in half a week. This performance today showed exactly why Madge is gone. We are a complete rabble with his squad.

Whoever becomes the new coach is going to have an ordinary 12-18mths with us as the squad gets worse next year & they get the joy of being stuck with Nofa & Musgrove for another few years. Lucky them.
Noff and Musgrove are maybe on a million combined. Madge copped Packer, Reynolds and Mbye on 2.5 million. Thanks JP! Flog

Crazycat I think the days of serious head injuries and long term effects of concussion are very slim now with all the head assessment and concussion protocols that are in place.
If accidents do happen it is unfortunate but it is as risky as a lot of other sports like boxing basketball etc.
I applaud what the NRL are doing.
My mate Frank Farina said he gets headaches from all the heading of the ball during his playing days and he thinks it will be taken out of the game soon.
basketball? head knocks?

Ok that explains Dennis Rodman.

Honestly though, we need to tone it right down. Players are becoming monsters in size and when you have an 84kg run into a 105kg prop.

😍🤣😍🤣😍🤣😍

It’s hard to take blocker serious with those sort of comments.
But he did also make a lot of comments regarding our forward pack and how they really needed to step up and take the game to manly.
He wasn’t wrong there.
Blocker is my favorite commentator even though a dyed in the wool Balmain legend .

He's parochial but not biased and fair with a top read of the game and adds a little spice for the fans and criticises without bagging,

They were the days.
Remember being in primary school reading the Mirror before season started and Roy promising to win every home match and get us high up in the finals.

Didn't let me down.

Roy apparently coached the Australian schoolboys but was no development coach.

He inherited a bottom of the table team and took pretty much the same side to the top.

Madge could've been this, a real motivator but sadly didn't get the buy in.

I'm sorry but I was only mucking around cos I was a little bored and could tell you were up for further discussions.
So I'll let you be on your merry way but I honestly cannot go around in circles about this club. It's organisational culture. Goals. Lee. Madge.
Thanks for your engagement, I guess. You're a good sport but this team ain't getting no more energy from me today.
That’s ok, I suppose I got a little wound up by the faceless people making decisions which negatively impact the team. Madge spent a lot of energy trying to convince the players they were good enough. The board sacked their coach because those players didn’t win enough games, further reinforcement that they weren’t good enough.
If Manly had DCE and their other Turbo the score would have been a record.
