Luciano Leilua

The club is embarrasingly weak. The Cowboys would have been desperate with Luki going down, and yet even with leverage we get nothing in return.
Cap space is all well and good, but we already have plenty of surplus cap space and can't sign anyone with it.

Taupau, Moses, Matterson, Aloiai (and probably others I've forgotten) - all left with nothing in return for WT, and we got worse as a result. They went on to improve their new teams, and play finals footy. Hard to see any other outcome again this time.

Bit different he's off next year and our season is gone but don't let facts get in the way of a good rant.

Luci said at the beginning of the year he wanted to play for Madge and the WTs and try to get them in the finals.....
Sack the coach and now Luci leaves early....how many are going to follow or not want to be here and play as he did last w/e....

I say BS. He was already leaving regardless of Madge decision, he signed with the Cowboys before the season starter. So it was clear Madge wasn't the reason he was leaving the club.

It would have alot more to do with Luki out for the season, Nanai mixing between SOO and Injuries hitting mixed with they are playing finals and we aren't - our season is over than Madge leaving.

Im not sure how people on here dont understand the benefit of clearing cap room now and either signing other players or front paying others. It means we have more cap room next year and anyone who thinks players and managers wouldnt jump at being paid ahead are idiots. Who wouldnt want to save a year interest on that equivalent of a mortgage or invest it for a year and make an extra 2-10% for nothing. If you make the call this year is over which we did last week then it was the right and smart thing to do. Good move by the club

Absolutely

People just like to have their agenda about the ceo and board because someone on the internet told them so.

No.
This shows that we are still pushovers. Anyone can leave if they simply ask. That's embarrassing. We already had 500k to spend and no one to spend it on. So now we might have 800k to spend and still no one to spend it on, we resorted to front loading contracts the past 2 seasons, and you want to do it for a third? It's just reckless and irresponsible. We barely have anyone to spend that money on as it is. Brown will be one, Hastings is already on 500k+ next season, which is about right for his recent performances.

Letting one of our best players go for free is just spitting in the face of every member of the club.

We do have a lot of suckers at this club though, those who enjoy failure, I don't understand those physcopaths. If someone spits in your face you don't just say 'thanks'.

There's still time for a new signing to be announced in the morning though but if there is nothing in exchange this is yet another calamitous failure of this club

Calm down he tanked last week, season over and signed elsewhere next year.

You and everyone else have no idea what the benefits might be.

I just don’t see any issue with this.
Said earlier post that we should release him and use the money to upload existing contracts that we value.
Rest of the year is an experiment and we need to blood some young guys and see what they are made of.
Great decision by the club.

100%
This club is the genuine laughing stock of the comp. Not one thing hard-edged or professional about it at all. Joke of a club.

This is what I don't get. We have spots and money already. Unless there is a mid season million dollar signing it's basically useless to us.

I think we've done this to do the right thing via Luc and the Cowboys.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't think the argument that we will upgrade players we want is factual.

Luciano Leilua granted early release

Wests Tigers have granted Luciano Leilua an early release from his playing contract, effective immediately.

Leilua signed a three-year deal in November last year to join North Queensland Cowboys for 2023 and beyond.

He will now join the Cowboys for the remainder of this season.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe says Leilua has made a valuable contribution to the club.

“We wish Luciano the very best with his future.

He and his family have made a lot of friends here at the Wests Tigers and they will be missed.”

The Betootta Advertiser caught up with Leilua as he was clearing out his locker in the demountables and was lucky enough to get a quote. “Pretty filthy how they treated me and my brother to be honest.. they tried to get us to do training and stop eating the fast foods.. dreaming bro”

Simple.
The more you spend this year on uploading contracts to existing players (via contract upgrades or restructuring an existing contract to pay more this year and less next year) …. more you have uncommitted for next year and available for new recruitment.
