Luciano Leilua

It would be something thing similar to resignation letter. In jobs were are a contract is in place or in other type of contract you need to request release in writing and the release needs to be accepted.
Now unlike our chair i am not a lawyer and dont know if the release needs to be accepted in writing or if a verbal acceptance is sufficient. But without seeing LL contract we are all speculating.
This is were Mr Bryden needs to come out and clarify..
A contract can be verbal and Luciano will probably claim that his release request was subject to the condition that NQ sign him for the remainder of the year.

The way it was explained on 360 is, Luc says to WT he’d like a release to take up a deal with NQ (the condition).

The Tigers agree to the release and announce it (too soon)

The deal with NQ is now the sticking point. Cap/terms etc.

If true, no idea why we rushed the announcement?? Not surprised but.
but, have any contracts, release forms bn signed

Awesome. This makes sense. This is how I've resigned in the past. You tell them you are quitting and then they say great decision see you later. You get paid out your benefits. I quit recently and got paid out twice. No joke. They paid me too little the first time and then paid me extra. I had no idea that I was underpaid the first time.

So maybe Luc hasn't provided his resignation letter.

Maybe he wants to stay.

It sounds more and more like a Seinfeld episode.

This makes a lot of sense.

You quit your job at ANZ on the condition of getting paid more at CBA. If CBA don't pay you more than you go back to ANZ and they have to continue paying you.

I like it a lot.

Maybe Todd said to Tim you are done now, can we have him? Tim said ok you can have him for X $ this year (balance of current salary). . Todd said ok lets do it now. Tim said ok and did it , Assuming Todd as coach knew what they had left in their cap ..but the Cows management said ..hold on..he can’t play this week or next so lets try and get a reduction of 2 weeks salary and cover in case he gets injured during rep round

You probably have a formal notice period rather than a release agreement situation.

Did you watch the Seinfield episode when George quit and then came back the next day. Apparently Larry David did that as well.

This sounds exactly like that. I quit but I then release I don't have any income and go back to work.

Surely the NRL doesn't ratify releasing players. That doesn't make any sense.
I just pictured that whole episode, what ‘quit’ nah your just imagining it.

There has to be more to this story...
I back the Tigers here on this one as LL Manager asked for a release and we agree to it. We don't give a rats where he is going or if they have the funds etc because all we care about is a free spot and cap relief..
It would be a different story if we were trying to offload him and we had to contribute some funds then I could understand but this isn't the case. E.g. Naden from Dogs come over and they are paying some of his salary this year and next and both parties need to agree.

IMO it's on his Manager and Cows.

Also find it hard to believe that a Chairman would allow this anyway if not above board..

Important question.

The written contract Lucy and club signed Is likely to have a provision that it can be amended or varied by consent or agreement, at a later time, but usually, that clause would insist on the variation being in in writing before and prior to it coming into effect.

Contracts can be verbal but also need to meet other legal requirements.

But also, the contract is going to have a clause that allows the club to release a player whether the player likes it or not and that’s how clubs can sack players without the players consent.

I suppose these circumstances would be listed, but maybe not.

There could be a provision in the contract that protects the players in such instances, but until we see it, we don’t know.

I think these contracts are registered with the NRL who have an interest.

But any talk of the cows having an interest, well, that would have had to have been created more recently contractually, because Lucy was not on their radar when he first signed.

That’s theoretically possible, but very unlikely.

They either stuffed up their numbers or are trying to have a lend holds more practical promise as a theory.

For once I’m in the court of the club.
His manager asked and the club granted.
Why?
Because I’m sure they had their reasons but prehaps it was a stand, saying if you don’t want to be here, leave now.
The day that the teams had to be announced they leave Lucy out of the team list with no notice or message whilst waiting for the cowboys to come to the party.
I think the most ironic part of the deal is this comment about the cowboys wanting Lucy until after he has finished up unscathed from the Samoa test match.
I mean they want him but really it’s on their terms. Good luck Lucy, you sound like a valuable commodity in that team.

A reasonably accurate portrait of these matters as they appear to be at this juncture, correct.

And I ask you Sir, who is brave and courageous enough to proffer a view to the contrary?

360!

Where the logic of matters is less important than the controversy created.

I mourn the loss of Lucy but not too deeply and I’m not about to strangle the cat over him.

It’s another club using us as a doormat. Tigers can wear the financial risk of the international (probably 200K), and then let him go.
