I agree they happen but he did drive his forearm down into his head just before Twal was hitting the ground and forcibly drove the back of his head into the turf. It wasn't an awkward position or a loose arm. It was a deliberate action.

I think if it was JWH, there may have been an different on field result. Its a bad look and if the NRL was serious about CTE ramifications they would've looked at it harder. Instead, Burton gets a origin callup.
 
Missed that start of the game...just watched it now...Burtons left fist is clenched and he knows where it is in relation to twals head...deliberate imo much like Kafusi on Walker...Burtons looking at Twal the whole time even after they hit the deck...he knew what was going on was no way it was one of those things

Yep, he was the kicker & they rightly get the benefit of the doubt when vulnerable to a charge-down play. But it doesn't give them Carte Blanche to use a forearm to the head of that player. Quick anatomy lesson - the head is above the neck, which ought to be clear to everyone - the irony is that Burton ought to know - afterall - he wears head gear!
 
As a QLDer - I think Burton should cop 3 weeks for that
As a Tiger’s man - I think he should cop longer.
Either way, he should not be playing this weekend. Absolutely terrible and weak from the NRL. Everyone should bombard them with complaints.
With this injury and Brooksies possible dumping, we now have only 1 player in the first 17 who can tackle….good luck Joffa.
 
This proves again and again that the refs. and the NRL are hypocrites,

It was clear as daylight that the act by Burton was done with the intent to cause bodily harm,

and when Burton was on top of the distressed and motionless Twal, Burton gave us even more evidence of his intention when he just carelessly walked away from the vile act that he had just committed.

The NRL has proven once again that their commitment to players safety and welfare is just hypocrisy and that they are a farce.
 
Thanks Ink, just managed to tune in and catch that on Channel 10.

Interesting that Alex thinks he might play again this year and in the meantime doing some work with the young Cubs that will be going over to NZ to play in the curtain raiser to the Wests Tigers vs Worriers sell out game in a bit over a week.

Wests Tigers Cubs to tour New Zealand​

Wests Tigers have announced an Under 18’s Cubs team for a Cultural and Development tour of New Zealand.

The team is a mix of players from this year’s Western Suburbs and Balmain Harold Matthews Cup teams. It will play a match against a Warriors Under 18’s team as a curtain-raiser to the Round 16 NRL fixture against the Warriors at Mount Smart Stadium next Sunday.

Many other Wests Tigers pathways players will also be on representative duty next weekend, at the Australian Schoolboys Championships in Redcliffe.

Wests Tigers NRL players Alex Twal, Jock Madden, Kelma Tuilagi, and Jake Simpkin were hands on last night with the Cubs at a ‘key positions’ training session in Concord.

Twal, who took charge of those in key forward roles, says he was impressed by what he saw, “They are such a talented bunch and being among the best in our pathways, I expected that would be the case. What really stood out for me was how polite and attentive they were.

They were full of questions and it’s obvious they are super keen to learn and become better.”

This club means so much to me so to be able to help the next generation of players is a real privilege. It’s massive.”

The ‘specialist positions’ session was designed by interim head coach Brett Kimmorley. In his role as Pathways Coaching Manager, Kimmorley was previously overseeing the coaching of the Cubs.

He says next week’s tour is about much more than running out at Mount Smart Stadium, “It’s also about preparing ‘NRL ready’ players.”

This is a wonderful opportunity for these young men, and they are to be congratulated on being selected.”

It’s a big trip for the club as a whole and these fellas will learn a lot from the experience.”

Yes, we want them to do well against the Warriors side, but it’s much more than that.”

Experiences like this will help them develop in the Wests Tigers way as good people, not just good footballers.”

Head of Pathways, Matthew Betsey is equally excited about the opportunities being provided to Wests Tigers stars of the future.

“I’m so excited for all the boys involved, whether it be those attending the Cubs tour, or those playing in the Schoolboys Championships,” Betsey said.

“It’s rewarding to see the continued investment in our pathways providing opportunities for these young men.”

Nine of the club’s pathways stars not attending the tour of New Zealand will play at the Under 18’s Australian Schoolboys Championships next weekend, including Western Suburbs Harold Matthews premiership-winning captain, Kit Laulili’i.

Another seven boys have been selected to represent NSW in the Under 15’s National Championships.

I listened to that interview, I found something interesting. Vossy asked him indirectly if everyone including himself were on the same page regarding taking the time off and Twal replied with "it was a mutual decision between the club and the medical staff".. didn't really mention himself. However, he did say he's looking forward to paying us back in 2023.
