Wests Tigers Coaches

I think our head office is doing this backwards.... They are playing their hand, selling the job as an opportunity to turn the whole organisation around, which to me spreads the the head coach a bit thin seeing as our FG needs so much work.

If the plan is to return to being a development club, then we should have first moved to have one of, if not the strongest coaching squads within our pathway systems, undeniably able to build young men ready for both the physical and mental rigors of the NRL.... then sold ourselves to head coaches as a few years off having a new crop that are ready for FG, with a system capable of attracting the best up and coming talent.

I think we are selling too big a job.

Do you support cap cheating to hoard the best talent in the game? You made a broad statement, I answered.

No I don't support PEDs. Do you honestly think he would do it again? Any Flanagan coached club will have routine doping testing done for sure.
I don't believe he would do it again but whether he gets another start I don't know. I believe he can coach and is a far different coach to Maguire noting that he assessed all the skills of his players and devised a game/style to suit those skills. It wasn't a one size fits all approach.

Benji Marshall believes the Tigers need to move on quickly and install the best credentialed coach to turn the club around for long suffering fans after missing out on their prime candidate.

“It is obviously a bit disappointing they didn’t get Cameron,” Marshall said on Fox League.
“I know they invested heavily in him as their first choice, especially offering him a five year deal.
“I think that showed how much they really wanted him, which is a little bit sad.

“But there is a lot of good coaches still out there. What they need to do is shift there attention to whoever it is that is next because they did speak about wanting someone who is good at developing young players, which they identified Cameron as.

“There is guys out there who have done it before. Shane Flanagan has got a mention. John Morris. They were even talking about Todd Payten, but he is on contract with the Cowboys, so I don’t know how that is going to work.
“But whatever it is it needs to be an investment that is going to turn the club around because I think the fans and everyone who has supported the club are a little bit fed up with the way it has been going in terms of results and want a bit of a change.

“The next coach has to be that guy to do it otherwise we could be looking at a long time before the club turns around again.”

“From what I gathered about the way they pitched to Cameron Ciraldo, there is a lot of money coming into the salary cap, so whoever does come in next is going to get an opportunity to create the roster they want,” Marshall said.

“There is going to be no excuses around the roster being a problem for whoever it is that does take that position.

“Part of my role at the Tigers now is coaching the juniors and what I’ve seen coming through, there is a lot of success at Wests and Balmain of kids that have got a lot of potential and talent.

“Our job at the club is to be able to keep those kids. So the next coach has to be vital in terms of contracting players and being able to nurture those kids to the next level because home grown talent is where it’s at.”
Well said Benji, given his performance on the Celebrity Apprentice he could do no worse to find himself in a larger role in the club if he wanted it. He is actually a lot more humble and considered than I have him credit for.
Back to the footy though, I wonder if his spotted the next Benji Marshall in our juniors?

Why did we have to announce he knocked us back?

Stupid to say anything about him in the first place, but my god. Just shut up and find someone.

Media don't target us, we feed them everything.
We need to act like the wooden spooners we are. Lay low for a while and make sound decisions, one after another. For a long time.

No doubt - management are incredibly unequipped for their roles.

It all comes across very amateurish.

We shouldn't state management. We should be clear that Sheens was the figure head of this approach. Pascoe and the board have backed him up.

The real issue isn't missing out on Ciraldo but sacking Madge. In stating that Madge is a first grade coach not getting results.

You hope they learn from this but I'm more worried they double down on the stupidity. I don't think we've had a dud signing under Madge. If we get another couple of dud signings that'll put us back years.

I just don't get what John Morris offers to turn this around based on his experience and the "current" needs of the club. To suggest that he is better credentialed than the man we just sacked..
You do a package deal, Flanagan as head coach with Morris as assistant. Maybe put Gardiner back in KOE to get that mess cleaned up. Plus a transfusion of players with the only criteria being passion to play footy. Not X factor, stats or cause they like the coach, just genuine footy players.

If my boss responded publicly to any member of the public in that way,

I've had a couple of good bosses. They would come out swinging if they had to listen to idiots. I have no problems with Lee telling that guy that he is a moron if he was a moron.

If anything Lee has now gone up a lot in my opinion. I don't think he had anything to do with Ciraldo not coming but if he contributed to that decision he goes up the rankings even further.

I actually believe we believe we were played Penrith and CC's management...

Our offer is/was very good both from a financial and future point of view. Our cap, our pathways system, our juniors and the COE paint a good picture regarding the direction of the club.

My thinking is that CC was interested and the offer we made set the baseline for Penrith. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see CC transition into the head coaching role at the Panthers in 2025, with Ivan moving to a head of football role (similar to Sheens and Gus).

My guess is that this was always discussed or planned by Penrith, all our offer did was provide a bargaining chip for CC to accelerate and formalise an offer to him moving forward.
