Wests Tigers Coaches

I'm actually having lunch with Pascoe in a few weeks ...will post an update afterwards....happy to take any questions peeps want me to ask him
Sorry for the long post,
  • In your 7 years you haven’t been able to gain the club a home ground advantage, do you realise the impact this has on the football department?
  • The successful clubs continue to field 6-7 marquee players, while we appear to only have one, have you ever challenged the NRL on this? Would a draft or a review of the salary cap be something you could propose to the NRL?
  • The signings of BJ Leilua and James Roberts were predictably bad, among others, why does the club under your leadership continue to make these recruiting mistakes? Are we assessing character when recruiting?
  • Why don’t we go into any season with a strong 30 man roster?
  • What makes you think you are the man for the job after 7 losing seasons under coaches you appointed?
  • Do you understand Madge didn’t stand a chance given the big money, long term deals we had thrown at some of Ivan’s signings - do you feel responsible for this?
  • Would you take another mid season holiday?
  • Your Chairman was quoted saying we had a strong roster this year, what is your opinion of our roster?
  • You have decided that we are now to be known as a development club, have you watched the good clubs in how they bring youth into a winning environment? What is your plan to bring our juniors into FG without harming their future, given our lack of senior players?
  • What is your plan to address the reputation of the club which is clearly harming attempts at recruiting good players?
  • You have two good signings coming in 2023 but we have also lost important players in the forwards and we don’t have a coach. are you confident we will still see Koroisau and Papali’i at Wests Tigers?
  • Do you feel that our Board are invested in the success of the football club? Will your job come under scrutiny if we haven’t played finals by 2025?

Bellamy does a fair bit of swearing, gesticulating and being angry,in the sheds and in the coaches box...how many finals have the Storm played in,I think the players get his communication skills...
Hasler, tore the door off the sheds in anger and swears a fair bit,the Manly players seems to do well for him and they seem to play in finals more than we do...
Once again Paws I like your input on the forum, but the hate for Madge by nit picking what goes on in the shed and communicating bears no reflection of coaching skills..
Many of the players speak highly of Madge, the ones that dont are probably the ones that want to get their pay the easy way....
On Sheens,he certainly didnt communicate well with C.C. or the members about our future coach...it seems like "dont worry board Im going all out on CC and he will be with us,if he doesnt we will cross that bridge when we come to it "...yep great planning and communication that time...

Morris may speak well and communicate well, but he still got sacked from a club he was doing well at...go figure..
Our own Bryce Gibbs wrote yesterday that communication is the most important asset for a coach. I agree.

Yesterday you attempted to equate the dismissals of Flanagan and Morris which was a false equivalency. The discerning footballing community know Morris was harshly treated.

Morris is responsible for the many good young players that have come through to the NRL via the Academy at the Sharks (Mulitalo, Katoa, Nikora, Metcalfe, Tracey, Xerri, Flanagan, Wilton, the Braileys). If Morris is NRL coach, I am optimistic he will do the same at WTs.

This is where our future lies, with young players from the South West and Inner West of Sydney augmented by buys of young players from regional NSW, Qld and NZ through our system to the NRL.

Bellamy and his staff identify many good young players in other systems and put them through the Storm finishing school. We need to match the Storm and imo the club is working towards this outcome.

I wrote some time ago that regardless of the outcome of the Ciraldo matter, the club has set its sights high to aim for the best. It didn't come to fruition, but I applaud WTs for trying.

Im not going back and forth in regards to Flanno and Morris...both are not coaching at NRL level atm...
Your last sentence about working toward this outcome that the Storm have...We should have developed the pathways long ago,not neglect them as they have been, bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted...If this club had any idea about football the young guys development would have been high on the agenda from the start.we had an abundance of talent going elsewhere...if we had of concentrated on that as well,we could have been right up there with the storm young talent...

I'm glad you're on board with the development of juniors. Morris has a track record in this field so I hope he is appointed.

Time will tell...as I said our pathways should have been high on the agenda from the start, not neglected and this is why we appear to be playing catch up instead of powering ahead as a club and team...

Good questions and each and every one of those deserves an honest answer.I won't be holding my breath though as all i expect on every one of those questions would be deflection especially in regards to anything involving the failures by him since he has been here and the continuing failures by a board that can't be removed

It appears that the only winners out of sacking Madge is the NZ international team and their supporters...
Well done to Madge and his squad...I hope he gets an opportunity in the NRL somewhere in the future...
Us atm are where we always are, hoping and praying for some sanity to prevail....

Bryce Gibbs' comment about communication being the best asset of a coach resonates. Bennett, Cleary, Sheens, Bellamy and Payten all are very good communicators. Morris as well as I watched him at our local cafe speaking with his assistants and delegating responsibility.

In the dressing sheds, Cleary is photographed at halftime sitting with his team in a relatively relaxed moment speaking with his team who are all sitting and attentive. I looked at a halftime photograph of Maguire in our sheds standing, obviously angry and gesticulating with his finger. A few listening maybe.

Shouting, gesticulating, swearing and being angry is not tough and it does not make you tough. When that fails, what do you have left? Nothing is the answer. Good communication is the key and our next coach has to be a great communicator.
100% agree. Big, aggressive, foul mouthed coaches are just that. Why should the players respond positively to such a coach? We need a coach who is a good communicator not a big bully.

A lot of time and effort was used to get Ciraldo,
The offer to him was more than very good.
If he wasn't interested he would not have spent 7 hours at the CoE.

But i haven't heard what the reason is for his rejection, has anyone from the media bothered to ask Ciraldo why he has rejected this massive offer?

It would be nice for the fans to know what his answer is after all this effort from both sides.

When we became a development club, does that mean the development only applies to the players? Are we not developing our own coaches?
If we’re developing Noddy, why only for 12 games?
The development of a coach could also include outside club experience as it is in Toddy’s case.
Clubs that survive and thrive have lifetime members with a strong loyalty. Members who may disagree on the methods but never on the goals.

It was reported that we recently asked Sticky to come on board as coach. He declined saying, he wouldn’t coach against Raiders.
Where he started his playing career is where he will finish his coaching career.
How can we foster this kind of allegiance?

We're not developing Noddy - He's expendable.
He wasn't even really coaching prior to this... For good reason.

By putting him in, We're not ruining any up and comers - Not changing anyones life plan..
Or the trajectory of our assistants, He's certainly not here to lay claims on the position moving forward.
We're just using him as front... Don't know if Lamb to the Slaughter is the correct term...
But he's there because we need someone to Front what's going on...
And he's silly enough to pull it on.

The squad he was to inherit has won something like 6 out of their last 25 games. It’s not rocket science.

Thanks tigerap:
I will keep it simple.

Recently Lee Hagipantelis stated that anything you or he says or does has absolutely no affect on the team’s on field performance.
Do you agree with this view?
If so, how many other positions in administration and the football department would fall under this category?

Buzz is in with Cronulla and had reported it was about his failures recruitment. The new coach comes in and grabs Hines and Finucane. They are around top 4. Pretty telling argument against signing him.
Makes sense. Bomber can coach all right but there has to be a big question as to whether he can attract top quality players to our roster. Someone like Flanagan might get us a few recruits from his old club Sharks and his current St George but that's no certainty either. Whoever we pick, they need to do it sooner than later!

Marquee Post.

I agree, but we may not like the answer given publically and it’s used by media for further damage.

We might be able to learn from it for our use and benefit, so it’s definitely worth asking privately.

Does he think we are weak in some areas, if so, what are they etc?

If it’s truly personal then we are off the hook.

My guess is that it’s a bit of both!

I appreciate the effort you put into your questions…they are in line with the questioning I had in mind… i will summarise them and assure you will cover them in my chat to him….

Morris signed McIness.... Deemed a big miss for other clubs at the time.

Fitzy signed Hynes and Finucane when the Sharks were Rid of
-Woods ridiculous contract
-Johnsons Ridiculous contract
-Dugans Ridiculous contract
-And got a fit Moylan (On big Money)

Have also had a couple youngins come on the boil - Talakai etc... Which may or may not have happened regardless of coach.

Sharks were looking beyond Morris for months prior to him leaving - Which also would have hampered buying players....
Morris has openly said, He had no money to spend in his time there..

Thanks mate, as someone already said, CEO’s are well drilled in political responses and I understand he will say whatever he needs to, to justify himself.
