Wests Tigers Coaches

Please let justin know that some fans are very unhappy with how Maguires departure was handled, that some are losing faith with the club and how it handles business.
I am fairly sure they already know - Tigers do monitor social media including this forum.

It doesn’t take too much intelligence to realise that the club is badly on the nose with the best footy players. Which means it’s going to be near impossible to win at WT. and the administration is happy to wipe their hands of any responsibility.

Career suicide 101.
With respect, move this to your thread.. thanks

Morris signed McIness.... Deemed a big miss for other clubs at the time.

Fitzy signed Hynes and Finucane when the Sharks were Rid of
-Woods ridiculous contract
-Johnsons Ridiculous contract
-Dugans Ridiculous contract
-And got a fit Moylan (On big Money)

Have also had a couple youngins come on the boil - Talakai etc... Which may or may not have happened regardless of coach.

Sharks were looking beyond Morris for months prior to him leaving - Which also would have hampered buying players....
Morris has openly said, He had no money to spend in his time there..
Even with no money he had a pretty handy roster to work with from the get go. Certainly nothing like a rebuild

Clubs like the Roosters would never air stuff like our preference for Ciraldo to replace Madge and the CE tour, 5 year contract and whatever else we threw at him. Just needlessly embarrassing if you come up short-as we did! We get enough negative press as it is without us stoking the fire!
I disagree.

There is no way whatsoever that news does not get out about Ciraldo being headhunted as coach. No way. Even if we could control 100% of in-house noise, which apparently we cannot, Ciraldo's side of the equation, plus his current employers, have no qualms in informing the media.

In fact Ciraldo and his management are incentivised to publicise his engagement with potential suitors, because it drives up his price with both new and incumbent employers. It's 100% win-win for Ciraldo, as evidenced by the new coaching deal the Panthers have put in front of him this week. Ciraldo's people have no reason to keep quiet, same as player managers don't keep quiet either any more.

The media is already reporting on the Bulldogs and Warriors coach recruitment drive and neither club have made any formal statements about who they are after?

There should be no issue with Tigers management acknowledging and attempting to control the media madness that can surround a new coach application. To say nothing invites endless speculation, and we know for a fact that the media has no limit on Tigers-based speculative journalism.

In fact, I would argue that the Tigers have done well in controlling the narrative about a new coach. The search and focus on one candidate is not unusual or arrogant or unreasonable, and I haven't seen any media commentary on that fact. The only thing people claim to be embarrassed about is the fact that Ciraldo said "no", which was always a risk, and is not mitigated by keeping your mouth shut.

I would vehemently argue against anyone who suggests that Bulldogs or Warriors are closer to their goal of securing the better applicant simply because they haven't made as much public comment about it. In fact Gus Gould does the opposite - he hoses everything down, even the truth, to the point where you cannot even trust the truth coming out of his mouth any more - total opposite of what the Tigers have done. At least the media believes what the Tigers are saying about the Ciraldo process, because they have attempted to be somewhat transparent about it.

But it will always be damned if do and damned if don't. People come into this forum every day with the hope of grabbing juicy tidbits of information, but then criticise the club for making public comments.

There will always be rumour, scuttlebutt and so forth given the RL media landscape. No club is exempt from that.
The issue is that we had the three heads of the club (Pascoe/Lee/Sheens) publicly mention we had one specific candidate that we were chasing. The inherent risk in doing so is the scenario that we now find ourselves in - what if he says no, and the rest of the field automatically knows they were (at best) second choice?
That we were turned down by an assistant should be embarrassing enough, but somehow the club manages to outdo itself yet again. If it were a one-off then it could be overlooked, but this is a persistent theme with the club - declaring an interest in someone (usually a player) before being turned down. It's a foolish way to do business and invites ridicule.

Had the Sharks to the finals for two years but plenty of obstacles - $353,000 salary cap deductions for two years, the fall out from perhaps the worst scandal ever to hit the NRL and subsequent impact upon morale at the club and dealing with some pretty big egos among the playing group. Despite all that, he laid the ground work by bringing to grade a number of outstanding talents eg Mulitalo, Nikora and Katoa. Ironically, the first two played for NZ on the weekend. Had a WTs coach achieved that , I'm sure most would agree he had performed well..

Good post but I disagree a little. I heard two people talking about being after Ciraldo and the development coach idea. Sheens was the big mouth. Pascoe said a little but nothing compared to Sheens.

I still think they played this exceptionally poorly and by they it's 90% Sheens.

I also disagree with sacking Madge. I think he has left our club in a good state whereas Cleary left us a mess. I would have stuck with him.

In stating that I think they sacked Madge at the right time if they were going to sack him. The noise if they were chasing coaches while Madge was still employed would have been really bad.

This will pass really quickly as well. Our cap isn't screwed. We have some quality coming here next season.
