Plans work, but the goals have to be smart…as in the acronym (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound).
Wests Tigers set goals such as top 4 within 3 years, premiership within 5. They never meet the criteria of S.M.A.R.T goals.
Once they fail, they are scrapped completely and new ones set.
These goals are too lofty, too fantastic. It is how idiots set goals.
Let’s try something simple for next year, for example;
2023 goal = get our points differential to be triple digit positive.
It is specific - no room for misinterpretation
It is measurable - it can be reviewed weekly/monthly
It is attainable - improved defence, improved attack will achieve outcome
It is realistic - on average we score 4 more points per game than we have scored against us. It is not out of reach for the pro teams
It is time bound - 26 games
Finishing top 4 and possibly winning GFs are byproducts of hitting goals such as this.
