Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Have not heard anything on Royce Hunt.
Nathan Brown would only be considered if the new coach wanted them.
Tim Sheens will NOT be getting more hands on with coaching & continue to do what he is currently.

I believe it's down to Woolf or Morris, personally I think Morris will get the job, biggest issue is the talk of him struggling to attract talent when he was at the Sharks, but some believe that was just a media tag line.

Club wants a new coach sooner rather than later. I'm expecting an announcement within a fortnight.

Any chance to hold out for payton?

We are never going to and probably shouldn't sign the players sharks were going for. Dale blew a lot of their cap.

Wonder if morris would help attract players like dykes. Players with potential.

But valid concern if both Morris and woolf are available tough question would be who's best for the club overall.

Throw flanno in the mix too.

Quick Update:

Coaching:
Club had a zoom meeting with Kristian Woolf a couple days ago to purely gage his interest in being our coach, wasn't a lengthy meeting but all round positive response from both sides. John Morris has also been directly spoken on 2 occasions.
The club has had to applications put to the club via the Walker Brothers Management & Dean Pay's Management, neither of these are looking to be explored.
In relation to Shane Flanagan he's not entirely out of the equation but his aggressive background media push has made the club extremely cautious not to mention his previous indiscretions.
A left field name that has been discussed is Jason Ryles, but doubt he'll leave the Roosters.

Recruitment:

Charlies Staines - all the noise about him is purely from his management & we are just being used to get his name out there to see if any other takers will come into the fold.

Kade Dykes - As you can imagine everything went sideways with this, he hasn't committed to the Sharks at this stage, management waiting to see where we land with a coach.

Jordan Miller - We seem to have done enough to keep this young man with us for the future. 3 Year deal will development next year & top 30 in 2024

Brandon Tumeth - Well into discussions to keep him around, almost certain to be in top 30 in 2023.

Hastings & Doueihi - Sheens has been in constant contact with these 2 & made it very clear to the both of them that they are future leaders of this club, had lengthy 1 on 1 with them & cleared the air over recent events.

In relation to filling remaining spots for this years roster by August 1, we only need to fill 2 out of the 3 available, as Luciano was released in June under NRL rules we aren't required to fill his spot & don't have to allocate his money for the 2022 season, this can be rolled over into next years salary cap.
Anything on Simpkin and Madden mate , not sure why Simpkin not getting a chance

Nrl minimum is 110k - for 4 players only.
Development players are 60k
So in other words they are offering him a development contract for for 2023 and a squad contract for 2024. Doesn’t sound a totally unrealistic place to start negotiations for a guy who is clearly still in the development stage of his career. He has potential but isn’t setting the world on fire..

Previously this has been a big issue for the tigers, we fill our squad with players who aren’t ready to play NRL but have potential then complain we have bad depth.

If he is complaining that he needs to pay management out of his own wage after tax - maybe he should speak to his manager or another one.

He played the full NSW U19s game after having come back from a long injury and played very well. I'd suggest that is far better than "isn't setting the world on fire" and consistent with his long history in junior rep football.

I haven't looked at any of their current contracts but some very good backrowers currently outside their clubs best 17.
Corey Haraweira-Naira, Brendan Piakura, TC Robati
Some Front rowers that whilst I don't think they're overly good they're an improvement on what we've got.
Jordan Grant, Emre Guler, Aaron Pene.
Would be making enquiries to their respective clubs about the possibility of taking any of them.

I’m not having a dig at the bloke - I’m honestly not. I don’t think he would be up for the week to week grind of NRL at the moment and if he was in the nrl side tomorrow I’d be nervous.

I just want the NRL squad to have better depth like most people, Everyone wants to sign the next up and coming superstar so much they would sign twenty rookies to the squad in catching one..

Obviously they are starting negotiations, tigers offered a dev contract and he wants an NRL contract. That would be the issue with all of these guys. Who knows where the contract negs will finish, I hope he gets a chance. I also don’t think it’s a great idea to leak out negotiations.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess their past is a good indicator of the future although there are exceptions. You can guess I want him retained as I want all outstanding WTs' juniors restrained. Watching Papenhuyzen last night really hurt.

Thanks @THE_POM.

In regards to Morris not being able to attract talent, that was when he is at the Sharks. At another Club, I'm sure he'll be able to attract a number of his own former Sharks players & academy prospects which makes him a very attractive proposition if he can.

All very positive thanks @THE_POM.

Have you heard anything about Tommy Talau? Many feel his future lies in the back row or as a modern day lock given his potential to bulk, ball skills & lack of speed for centre. Does the club see a a future with him in the forwards?

He has also stated he had no money to splash around while he was at the Sharks. That would explain his 'lack' of recruitment pull.

What's the plans for Brooks future ?
