In my opinion the smartest way to do it, and this is consistent with other top clubs is to lock your young talents away on top 30 contracts and sign experienced depth players on part time / train and trial contracts.I’m not having a dig at the bloke - I’m honestly not. I don’t think he would be up for the week to week grind of NRL at the moment and if he was in the nrl side tomorrow I’d be nervous.
I just want the NRL squad to have better depth like most people, Everyone wants to sign the next up and coming superstar so much they would sign twenty rookies to the squad in catching one..
Obviously they are starting negotiations, tigers offered a dev contract and he wants an NRL contract. That would be the issue with all of these guys. Who knows where the contract negs will finish, I hope he gets a chance. I also don’t think it’s a great idea to leak out negotiations.
He is currently on a Dev contract. So it sounds like they are offering him a train and trial contract for next year which gives him a chance to play first grade from round 10 23. And this might be a temporary suggestion until so room opens up in the top 30.
In essence, a Tristan Riley project should of been signed on a train and trial position for this year and next and Tumeth should of been signed in one of the positions 25-30.
Hard to know the value of that decision given his injury history.
