Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sorry think you've got me all wrong.
I absolutely agree with everyone's thoughts that they sound a pair of bumbling idiots but was more pointing out that the area with where their expertise lies, has actually achieved favourable results.
I agree Lauren, they're excelling at making money and growing the Tigers brand and Tigers footprint in the game, they are failing in getting onfield results, no doubt because there is noone at board or corporate level who has played or has experience in creating onfield secess.

We’re all happy for him to move on and get a job with a business that doesn’t have a football department. That being the only department the customer gives a hoot about.

Have not heard anything on Royce Hunt.
Nathan Brown would only be considered if the new coach wanted them.
Tim Sheens will NOT be getting more hands on with coaching & continue to do what he is currently.

I believe it's down to Woolf or Morris, personally I think Morris will get the job, biggest issue is the talk of him struggling to attract talent when he was at the Sharks, but some believe that was just a media tag line.

Club wants a new coach sooner rather than later. I'm expecting an announcement within a fortnight.
Any word whether Payten has been discussed as an option and an interim coach put in place until he becomes available in 2024?

unless we get some better forwards, wont matter who is in our spine
all of our forwards will improve with Koroisau there. Utoikamanu and Twal are both good front rowers that will be even better with Api getting them over the ad line. Musgrove is a decent bench prop with Pole and Miller our standout prospects in the engine room. no doubt we need to go to market to grab another forward or two but I honestly don't think it's as bad as people make out.

They remind me alot of the embarrassing uncle...well mine anyway. The one who’s stuck living in the 80s (attire and all) and still blares music from that era on his car stereo. Who often cracks onto chicks half his age, tells dirty jokes to anyone they encounter and hogs the limelight at all parties/events. So I wasn’t really dismissing how inept they look - or that the team’s function is also aligned with the club’s strategic goals - but rather pointing out that their job roles and responsibilities are distinct from footy operations.
They may very well play some part with the frameworks, for team development, but have no direct influence on their performance. If they do appear totally clueless it's because they are and are inexperienced in evaluating, formulating and implementing strategies to execute the club's plans of building a competitive roster and successful team.

It's why I'm a fan of Sheens' appointment. He doesn't exactly skirt around issues and is highly accredited but also understands the turbulent nature of the game, that you need to account for/remedy variables that hinder team progress (including unexpected events in injuries or such). Most importantly he's bold and fearless enough to face the unknown and make tough decisions - which is essential for the club to grow and adapt IMO.

The latest news about our potential coaches is a bit exciting and should keep us busy for a while.
I enjoy reading your posts Lauren because they are thoughtful and well written.. Your views on Sheens are consistent with mine. Not sure on the dirty old uncle (I hope he is no reading this forum).😂

Hope not too as the impression I've given of him isn't the best. In all seriousness I absolutely love him despite any flaws - being a Manly supporter included.

Honestly can't help but look toward possible recruitment targets and hope our wishlist isn't like previous years. Though I'm more than happy with Papalii, Korisau and even Naden at this point.
Replacements for Luciano, Tuilagi, Tamou and Mikaele should be our main focus.

No chance that he is on that low of a contract.

#Notdefendinghim

Not now. I'm talking about going forward. He is just like Benji at the end of Benji's career. The club was a lifeline to him and for what we paid him he was great.

I love the hash tag.

Do you have any proof to back up this assertion ? I just watched Winning Time about the Lakers winning a championship. They had a rookie owner who had never played the game at all. They had an assistant coach who was a Shakespeare teacher. They won the whole thing.

They also had Kareem and Magic Johnson.

I don't think ex-players do any better than random people who make it in those roles.

Totally agree. Our depth is poor in the forwards though. It's really poor.

That’s sad . It really shows how some clubs including us , by the way eg. Taniela the tank , are absolutely sociopathic with the way we churn through players as if they’re cattle.
As if the warriors didn’t know how shit Locke had it growing up.
Say what you will , but the best clubs do their best for these types . Not the lodge type spoilt brats , but the guys like Locke, And many hundreds more from upbringings with abuse , and neglect . The storm and for the most part , the roosters lead the way in this .
He would have been his worst enemy , And because birds of a feather flock together , he would have sought out the Tim smith type head case types as mates , further sinking him into the abyss .
Imagine thinking at any point ever Sam Tompkins was a better footy player than Locke . Lol

Again, like I said in the coaching thread about coaches. Same goes for players. Players run amok over there then come over here and look average. Tompkins is one of the best examples of that. Man of Steel, what a joke that award is.

Quick Update:

Coaching:
Club had a zoom meeting with Kristian Woolf a couple days ago to purely gage his interest in being our coach, wasn't a lengthy meeting but all round positive response from both sides. John Morris has also been directly spoken on 2 occasions.
The club has had to applications put to the club via the Walker Brothers Management & Dean Pay's Management, neither of these are looking to be explored.
In relation to Shane Flanagan he's not entirely out of the equation but his aggressive background media push has made the club extremely cautious not to mention his previous indiscretions.
A left field name that has been discussed is Jason Ryles, but doubt he'll leave the Roosters.

Recruitment:

Charlies Staines - all the noise about him is purely from his management & we are just being used to get his name out there to see if any other takers will come into the fold.

Kade Dykes - As you can imagine everything went sideways with this, he hasn't committed to the Sharks at this stage, management waiting to see where we land with a coach.

Jordan Miller - We seem to have done enough to keep this young man with us for the future. 3 Year deal will development next year & top 30 in 2024

Brandon Tumeth - Well into discussions to keep him around, almost certain to be in top 30 in 2023.

Hastings & Doueihi - Sheens has been in constant contact with these 2 & made it very clear to the both of them that they are future leaders of this club, had lengthy 1 on 1 with them & cleared the air over recent events.

In relation to filling remaining spots for this years roster by August 1, we only need to fill 2 out of the 3 available, as Luciano was released in June under NRL rules we aren't required to fill his spot & don't have to allocate his money for the 2022 season, this can be rolled over into next years salary cap.
Thanks for the update.
Your a shining lights in these dark days of winter.
