Wests Tigers Coaches

I think I'm just going to read Paws posts today. This is awesome stuff.

In Lambkin we trust.

As stated above Sheens shouldn't be eligible. It shows a complete lack of integrity.

Any coach in existence will tell you how big the jump from reserve grade to NRL is....
Or the jump from Assistant to head coach - We're pulling a bloke from Schoolboy footy....
I have no doubt on his history or credentials - He's well regarded....

But the worst club in the last 4-5 years in the only club in the last 20 he's been in the game to offer him a full time job....
C'mon now.

And how long have we been looking at the Panthers to see how it is done? lol.
"The greatest teacher is failure" -Yoda
"Learn or not learn, there is no other way"- Twentyforty
There's always room for improvement and it is a good start in the junior space. I don't want to see the future James Tedesco from Camden playing for the Roosters! It is a good story to tell and it is great we have someone as committed as Shannon Gallant out there pursuing it for WTs.

He's already put his hand up to be a fulltime coach - From his own mouth...
Mate - There's coaches out there (That don't make it) that have done 10 years in the trenches...
Benji hasn't been retired 12 months...

Tell him to get out, Do the hard yards - Make a name for himself and come back in 5 years and apply for the assistant role then
Yeh I'm hearing you BB.
I was just stating where he may of heard it.
Do you know what BB, I'm uncomfortably numb.
WT need a better media/PR group to engage people like us and get us excited again.
How they do that I dont know.
Someone wake me up when this nightmare is over

Or the jump from Assistant to head coach - We're pulling a bloke from Schoolboy footy.

He is listed as our reserve grade coach now. Put a good team around him and see how he goes.

Look we aren't going to get some great coach if they even exist. Clearly Sheens stuffed up in sacking Madge but let's try something and give the guy a shot.

We aren't getting any worse.

The way I see it, only Sheens can help us, the board can’t and other coaches from outside new or used I doubt can help either. Could be the new Furner/Bennett approach being adopted .

Exactly - The first job outside Schoolboy footy he's ever had - And he's been in it 6 months.
A good team of who or what exactly? Sheens... Assistants who think they deserve the job... Who?

The whole - Throw a dart in this direction and see if we hit a dartboard thing really doesn't sit well with me
(And many others)

What coach in the history of the game just fell from nowhere?
He's been heavily involved in Parra, Manly more recently and now us - But has never coached outside Schoolboy footy....

It's like picking up kids at the go-cart track and putting them in army aircraft, And saying - Give it a go mate....
Seriously.

You're right, We can't get worse - But he'll get a year free run... And into the next - If he's a failure (There's more chance he will be than not) We're 18 months down the track - Lost a heap of kids and all our best players are gone, Or at the back end of contracts and looking to go....

Because we decided to take a punt on an unknown.
It's nuts.

There's coaches - They're everywhere.....
Not all the potential candidates work only at Penrith.

And the coach of last years Flegg who ran first. Our CC team has been playing with a half flegg/ half ron massey side for most of the seasin given injuries in NRL. You should take very little out of a nsw cup squad performance when assessing coaches from the ladder for any team
So when the same thing happens to the NRL team the head coach gets sacked for it, but when it’s the NSW Cup side the coach should be promoted?

Makes sense.

The flegg side seems to be doing okay without him and the same issues.

NRL 360 host Braith Anasta asked the panel on Wednesday night if Sheens was going to coach the Tigers and Phil Rothfield said there is plenty of support for it to happen.

“I think if he was asked by the Wests Tigers management (he would) and I’m waiting for them to do something about it,” Rothfield said.

“He’s got support from Benji, Ricky Stuart likes it, Mal (Meninga) likes it, Laurie Daley likes it.”

Imagine that.....
The idea itself is so incredibly stupid and preposterous....

That I'm just waiting for the announcement.

Tim Sheens is a genuine contender to coach the Wests Tigers again, with key figures within the club keen to make the move happen.

There is a growing push internally for Sheens, the first and only man to guide the joint-venture outfit to a premiership, to return to the role. Ironically, Sheens hasn’t coached at NRL level since he was sacked by the club a decade ago.

Sources with knowledge of the situation have told the Herald that some club powerbrokers believe Sheens is a better option than a list of candidates linked to the role that includes current interim Brett Kimmorley, as well as Josh Hannay, Kristian Woolf, Dean Young, Shane Flanagan and John Morris.

Sheen's taught the team how to defend, catch a ball and pass the 1st few years, open honest about it,becaue he saw those skills lacking,if thats the track were going down again ,so be it,if we are developing players why not our cooaches as well,
I thought Stryker’s original description was true given our snorkelling after the last few years.

Waves lapping over the top, the occasional squid getting sucked down into our mouths.

Have they learned though? The environment still appears toxic, Moses,Matterson,Aloiai, Leilua all seeking and receiving early releases. Nothing has really changed and nothing will for a few years yet. Missing the top half of a 16 team Comp, 11 years in a row is abysmal. And were no closer to improvement. I want this Club to prove me wrong every year, but it doesn't, it used to be "next year", were so poor, it's now "3 years and look out".
There's no accountability.
Why should we have to accept pain after 11 years of failure?
The question is: who needs to be sacked, in your opinion, for this all to be fixed?

They've sacked several coaches and recruitment staff, assistant coaches, pathways people over the 2 decades, so that's been attempted. We've had several CEOs come and go, though I assume you'd advocate for Pascoe to get the punt, we also cannot forget that we were not successful with Pascoe's predecessors either (Pascoe has "only" been CEO for 6 years and we've failed to make the finals far more often than that).

I do not agree with your contention that there is necessarily a toxic environment, indicated by a handful of releases. We also released Marty Taupau and Blake Austin early, but there is no evidence of menace or malpractice in these, or Luch, other than we were outbid and made a tactical decision to cash the funds early rather than persist with a player who is leaving.

We early-released Gareth Ellis on compassionate grounds; Benji Marshall also got a release for rugby, and you need to consider each release on its own merits rather than just clump every "release" together as some sort of key indicator of "toxicity".

Releases are also very common now - even just yesterday Warriors released Reece Walsh, Broncos are reportedly releasing TMM and Raiders releasing CNK. Raiders released George Williams and Titans released Jamal Fogerty to take up that position. Even just recently Tigers secured early releases for Offa, Daine Laurie, Ken M, Doueihi etc.

My opinion on the releases is that Tigers' basic issue is not a toxic culture, it's a lack of a winning culture. They are distinct - one is an unpleasant workplace, the other is a reasonable workplace but the team does not achieve high success. And rugby league is an atypical workplace because most jobs you don't have the competition literally physically trying to stop you achieving.

Moses, Matterson and Aloiai all agitated for a release for higher pay at clubs with a better chance of playing finals football. The mechanism they used was disrespectful, but Matterson in particular has proven that is his typical MO and not specific to the Tigers.

Of course it stands to logic that if a more successful club comes to a Tigers player with a bigger offer, that player may be incentivised to try and leave. No different to Stefano asking Eels for a release once he signed his Tigers deal.
