Wests Tigers Coaches

At the end of Paul Kent write-up

Since Michael Maguire was sacked as head coach last month Sheens has stated several times he has no interest in the head coaching job.

When I asked him how difficult it might be to attract a coach to the club, given it has become something of a graveyard for coaches since Sheens was sacked first time around — only Ivan Cleary has survived, and he left the Tigers — Sheens held no fears.

“I’ll be knocked over with applicants, don’t worry about that, Paul,” he said.

“The issue is trying to find the right guy to fit.”

Sadly, Sheens is still standing, having been knocked over by no one.

Penrith assistant Cameron Ciraldo knocked back a five-year deal, St Helens coach Kristian Woolf said no and Todd Payten has quietly been sounded out with no interest.

Other likely candidates now don’t seem to be so likely, and so the club is looking to reinvent 2005 again.

And again.

And again …

Tim Sheens is reportedly set to be locked in as head coach of the Wests Tigers.

News Corp journalist Phil Rothfield revealed on NRL 360 on Monday that the head of football will step into the high-pressure role that Michael Maguire was sacked from last month.

“I think next week the Wests Tigers will probably appoint Tim Sheens as coach,” Rothfield said.

“I think the framework is what they are looking to build around Tim for the future and for him to the mentor the right people to eventually take over in two year’s time.

“What will that framework look like, is Brett Kimmorley in the picture? Is Benji Marshall, Robbie Farah, people like that?

“Yes, I think they all are and that’s what Justin Pascoe and Lee Hagipantelis and the board at the Wests Tigers have got to decide on.”

Rothfield said both Farah and Marshall are “really good options”, however Paul Kent questioned how they are given they’ve got little to no coaching experience.
“They’re going to be taught well... Robbie’s been in the system as an assistant and Benji’s involved with the pathways. You’ve got to start somewhere,” Rothfield responded.

Meanwhile, NRL 360 host Braith Anasta, who played 31 games for the Tigers, believes the three will form a strong combination.

“It seems like a good balance to me — experience and ex-players who love the Wests Tigers and can learn from one of the best,” he said.

The more I see this Sheen's stuff happening the more I think it may work. He will be able to help recruit players and thats a massive plus.

Thanks for posting. This is a bizarre situation. If I wasn't a supporter I reckon I'd be laughing. The only thing is it's probably only our supporters who care.

It's like when you stuff up and you think everyone else cares but in reality no one does.
