Wests Tigers Coaches

Disagree all you like - Sheens name hasn’t been mentioned in the NRL for the best part of a decade… and he hasn’t innovated anything for a long, long time - and even then… it took generational talent to do it. He may still be watching football, weather he’s still a student or not - you don’t know and couldn’t say…
There’s a difference between a tragic and a student.
Ben Johnson used to be the fastest man on the planet - now he lives in his mums basement and does ads….
It doesn't mean Sheens has not kept apace of the changes in the game and to coaching. His appointment is short term and the selection of his assistants will go along way to determining the progression of the club. I felt your initial post was a very narrow view of Sheens. Prince, Hodgson, Farah et al besides Marshall were all excellent players. In the end, I won't change your view on a footballing forum.

I think this is a bit of a rough call. I mean you are stating we weren't expansive enough but Brooks was allowed to do what he wanted.

My take is we just didn't have the players to compete but I honestly think our roster is improving.

My criticism would be losing players like Matterson, Aloiai and Luc but I also think all of those players left for one reason only and that is more money.

I think Madge was hard done by but I also understand it's pretty hard to keep your job if you are a first grade coach and you've had 4 years of not making the finals.
Look I agree. It was a developing roster under Madge, including a couple of players that had individual goals to get back to their best form. Was it the best we could recruit as a WT team. Let’s see over the next year or so who joins Sheens to help build the Tigers back up.

Probably because if the club ever moves him on for a better player, I’d be one of the first to pump my fist.
GNR has been consistent right the way through on this matter. I view his comments on Brooks as being middle of the road which probably looks extreme when you are viewing them from an extremity.

Paws lol, which extreme do you view Brooks. I’d say you have more loyalty to him then his own mother has for him. We agree on alot of things but this one we will definitely not lol.

Mate I am proud to defend Brooks and I always respect your views. GNR just copped a lot on the Brooks thread the other day which I felt was not fair.

Which is never , because to the brooks fan club he is the best number 7 in the world.
Not really. To all and sundry including his favourites. He lacks the one fundamental skill that every halfback needs. A kicking game.
It ain’t coaching it’s ability.
Paired alongside someone who can actually kick a ball he looks ok.
But well most teams just recruit a halfback that can do it for their self.

I would suggest his recent coaching record suggests exactly that...

And Benji and Robbie as much as they have a fundamental need for Wests Tigers to revolve wholey and soley around them
- Will not automatically be head coaches in 2 years.

Benji especially, He's not been held accountable for anything in his whole career...
Mark my words - This ends with Benji moving on (For a 3rd time) Bagging the club on his way out - For a 3rd time... And us worse off than we are now.

Thats just complete immaturity if that’s what you think. No one has ever said anything even remotely close to that. I definitely haven‘t. There are quite a few halfbacks I’d trade him for in an instant.

Sheens will impart his knowledge and experience on our players, especially our youngsters. If Robbie and Benji can do the same we are miles ahead as a club. I believe the appointment of our assistants will be crucial.

Maguire had a one size fits all approach, whereas someone like Flanagan is/was different I wrote earlier, Flanagan reviewed his squad, their skills and devised a style suitable to the squad's skillsets. It is fundamentally different but many supporters want Flanagan at WTs and expressed the view he is similar to Maguire. This is not correct imo. Sure he by reputation is a hard taskmaster but had a different approach.

Maybe. I'm not really buying it but that may simply be because I support the Tigers and don't watch enough games of other clubs or maybe I don't have the depth of understanding.

I think league is pretty simple. You need to win the middle or at least compete. You can then play some good footy and by that I mean players that can make a bust via speed or footwork or creativity.

I think you need certain players though. As an example I think NSW lost the series this year because unless they completely dominated physically ala in game 2 they don't have the creative players to do the fancy stuff. Queensland had Ponga, Holmes and DCE. NSW didn't have Latrell and Tommy Turbo and since they didn't dominate they couldn't score enough points.

If everyone doesn't @GNR4LIFE GNR is an equal opportunity hater he really is. I don't think he likes any of our players.

I'd be more interested in players that @GNR4LIFE. Tell us mate - do you rate any of our players.

Sheens appointment will hopefully restore some stability and let us get on with sorting out our roster for 2023 including new signings and negotiating with guys we want to keep. His selection of assistants will be an indicator of who is likely to take over the head coaching role in 2 years time when he steps down.

My prediction is, sheens to have chris anderson type heart problems within 12 months and retire, warren to white ant kelly egan at the raiders and attempt to get recruitment job there, cayless to be assistant coach at warriors within 12 months, gardner to go back to teaching and be jason taylors assistant at norths, with freebairn his step son to follow, robbie and benji to have a fall out and be on no speakies as hey knife each other for the top job going forward, pascoe to be moved sideways and become wests tigers performance culture advisor. Hastings to the dogs and douhie back to the rabbits. Api to cop his retirement money, im being facetious people, well partly.
Wow.

Like a Shakespeare novel.
Truly poetic.

Let's discuss privately and work this out into a screenplay.

Our assistants shouldn't be Robbie OR Benji - Happy for them to help out.

They're not coaches yet, And should probably even go and get some experience outside our club if that's the path they wish to follow.
They're continuously rewarded on their status within the club from a decade ago - And that just does not work - In any organisation.

Who should I rate? Given where we are on the ladder, I don’t think many players warrant much of a defence

Imo don't believe they will be although I have no doubt both will assist where required because they want to give back to the club. I would like Robbie to teach our young hookers how to kick from dummy half, This is a skill that has been lost in the last few years and one that provides a significant advantage. Also. involving Laurie more in ball playing would improve our team.
