Isaiah Papali’i #265

Haven't read it but I'm assuming he's literally just finished playing a game of footy and journalists have used it as an opportunity to ask about his future with the us. They'd do anything to draw further attention upon the Wests Tigers and that includes bothering players during post game matches.
I'd like to hear confirmation from him too but I could seriously understand why he is being vague.

The thing that annoys me the most, is that this type of typical behaviour (from journalists) could be the deterring factor that makes players not wish to come here.
Plus there are the fans or supporters who are unhinged and unable to control their reaction/emotions. Who are bound to harrass, stalk and abuse players on social media when they read articles like these.
No, it wasn’t actually hard for him to answer at all. It was not the standard “I’m only focused on this year” answer that every player has given since 1908 after signing with a new club. He was specific in saying he doesn’t know what’s happening.

I'm so sick of this. It's always the Sydney clubs too. I don't care if he comes and sits on the victor at lichhardt.

Do not cave here tigers. We've made recruitment decisions off the back of his signature.
The fact we got him for such a good price is even more reason to double down. Because if we give in, we can’t go out and get someone else of his calibre at the same price.

The reason why we keep getting this is they know our management have no backbone. They've always caved. Matterson, Cleary, alolai.

Time for JP to finally shine.

If it's about money just pay him more, honestly if he feels he is getting ripped off he will agitate. His manager will flay him otherwise.

I know many of us think it is immoral and unethical, I do too, but the NRL accept it so those feelings are just sentiment. We need to stop being such naive nonces (the club, not the fans).

The best second rower and arguably best hooker are huge coups, already landed. No going back and maintaining respect.

How much we paying him again?

I mean theres literally no reason to release him, he's not gonna sit out for 3 years is he? Don't be stupid, maybe bump his offer a little but you don't contemplate releasing one of the best players (if not best) in his position.

This is where the club should grow a set, release a statement saying, “in regards to Isiah’s recent comments about where he will be in 2023, it will in fact be here at our club“.

I disagree. There is no need to make it into an issue. If he has a problem he should sit down with Sheens, Benji and Robbie and they can reassure him that everything will work out fine.

I think Parra are pushing this as well and the club should contact the NRL and make a complaint.

That Arthur is reported to have made the comment the Eels have room in their salary cap should be scrutinised. by the NRL. He could have shut it down immediately by advising Papali'li' has a contract with WTs for 3 years.

Yeah it should be stamped out by the nrl.

Although as a club can't say much remember we did it with moltzen.

All we can do is enforce it legally

Our roster is rubbish partly because we keep giving in to this sort of stuff after it’s too late to sort out replacements.

Imagine if we had Matterson, Aloiai and Leilua still at the club. You may not like what they did but they make us a significantly better footy side.

We’ll find out pretty quickly if Sheens/Benji have the gumption to stop it.

Bad luck if you signed a contract you know the terms..
I would rather sit him out then let him get out if it.

With regards to increasing his salary I say No as well but would be happy to review after he plays a season with us. You can 100% guarantee if he was not performing this year and we approached him to take a pay cut due to his form his Manager would slam the door in our faces.. It's seem to only work 1 way in player contracts these days..

I think we need to get in his ear and ask him to put a statement out so it can be cleared up and not effect any future signings etc.. It's in his favour to do so as we could add some more better players.
