Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I love what Hastings has brought to us but
A) not convinced him and Doeuhi have the speed as a combo
B) if hasting is seen as a lock then im not convinced he is our future

Given that then if we had a Douehi/ Moses combo it would be brilliant and them Matmua at lock given that is his best position

Hastings has plateaued somewhat...
All I see now is "How many touches" he has....

Touch the ball all he likes, Need quality - Not Quantity.

AD and Hastings is an incredibly low bar to have as your dream halves pairing....
We have money - Players we could move...

Aim higher.
I want to see them at least have a game together before I give up on them as a good option.
If they are your halves with some quality forwards in front of them I think they would do an excellent job.. You could put Cronk and Munster in the halves behind our forwards and they would struggle.. All comes down to a better platform laid

Anyone know whats going with Dotoi ? Exciting young player I hope he didn't leave on a basis of being homesick

Yeah mate, Agreed....
He'd have a game of running 300m one week - And dropping 12 bombs the next.
I don't know he'd do here what he's doing there, But he also may well do more.

Either way - He'd certainly be doing more than what we got.
im not saying Edwards isnt a clear upgrade because he obviously is. But, IMO he is not one of the top fullbacks and don't really see him improving our team. He offers so little creativity. His 200+m games at Penrith could not be repeated here as we let the opposition march down the field and as such we don't force the long clearing kicks that would allow him to rack up kick return metres.

Cronk and Munster (2 best halves of the last decade) are allowed to Struggle behind our forward pack - But Brooks isn't?
Seems a fair statement.

I wonder how many people in the NRL would see
Hastings and Doueihi as your preferred halves pairing for a top grade side.

Yep i've been thinking the same thing. Could be a Papali'i type signing. Young highly rated player falls down the pecking order and needs a fresh start to rekindle his fire. Wouldn't cost too much and would give us some depth in the back row if Blore needs easing in.
agreed, id be very pleased if the club landed Katoa

You need to watch him better mate - He's still young and his work ethic has seen him improve year on year....
He's improved his ball playing tremendously in the last 12 months.

You also forget he plays for the Panthers, Where the lock is the linchpin of the attack (And ball playing) There's no room for that in that team for him....

Between now and pre season is key for signings. If we could somehow jag 2 of the quality of ipap and api our first 17 will look a lot better than the start of this year.

The 2 above plus Pole, a fit Stefano and Blore, Naden, plus Douehi with a pre season. If the 2 jagged quality signings were in key weak areas (fullback, strike centre, prop or second row) it would add a bit of excitement.

Two signings of the quality of a Tapine, Edwards, Manu or Farnworth added to all the above would shift us up the ladder. Also players like Matamua coming through provides hope as well that we can keep gaining depth from our youngsters.

Surely releasing so many players this year will allow us to front load people and free up more cash to “jag” some serious talent. If Brooks isn’t in the long term plans surely you could front load him this year so the freight we’d have to pay next year would be on 2022 books. That would provide basically $900K to $1M you could throw at a superstar.

If no talent of that level available for start of 2023 then go hard Nov 1 for 2024 onwards. I’d still be happy with that and then quality attracts more quality.

Cows and Bronks have shown you can turn around fortunes reasonably quickly.

I agree with this. It's just getting the right players. I like the idea of Manu or Suaalii. I don't want the Turd.

I actually think fullback is the position where we can get the biggest upgrade. It was hooker but we are fine in that position now with Api coming.

1 more high quality player in the spine would make a massive difference. We also need to fix the forwards but I'm less concerned seeing Pole come into the top team and kill it.
