Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

I'm convinced Laurie needs to be tried in the halves. Not saying it will work, but it has to be tried. Could he do a Jarhome Hughes? I can't get out of my head the reports when he was at Penrith. Apparently he would carve the NRL team up in opposed sessions and those at Penrith believe the halves is his best spot. Ive got a feeling putting him in a genuine ballplaying role will bring out the Koori footy in him. His short kicking game is already lengths ahead of all our halves, he rarely stuffs up a repeat set grubber.

He's too lazy mate....
Barely turns up at FB, In the halves he'd be non-existant.

I agree, he is fast, but seems to have the abilities you expect in a half or five eight, not fullback. What is there to lose in trying him out in the halves, he seems to small at fullback, his heart is, but body not.

Would like to see him in another team.

Not just for our benefit, but to confirm (or dismiss) if it was him or the team, that is/was the issue.

His flaws are much worse than most believe (or ignored.)

Fair bit of that with all the halves here....
(Insert Jock Madden is better quote)

Idk if Brooks is as bad as people make out.

He is nowhere near as bad as his detractors make out. It's not even close.

Brooks has over the last couple of weeks been heavily involved in plenty of the good attack we provide. He was unlucky last week. I think we had 2 tries on the left side with Brooks heavily involved disallowed via other players (Tupou and Matamoa) being penalized.

I'm not sold though on moving Hastings to 13 to allow Brooks and Douiehi to play as running halves on the edges. I suppose that is why they intend to try it until the end of the season. They want to see if it works.

It's a mess.

Yeah I re-watched it and he was okay unlucky on that disallowed try.

The forced pass was bad and kicking game could be a lot better.

For the 2022 season, The WT have scored more tries on the left edge 48% (middle 19%) and (right edge 33%)
,
And the WT have conceded more (43%) on the left edge, (middle 29%) and the right edge 29%.

although they are interesting to look at, i honestly don't trust them very much as a guide, because when you compare players and teams sometimes the stats show little differences between them which contradicts how we see and feel about.the teams strengths and weaknesses.

The following link has the details and should help to answer your questions.
I would presume most tries are scored on the left edge because most players pass right handed, the 3 sides that predominantly score right edge must have a good left handed pass in the halves, (there are not many, never has been ).

Jock Madden is incredibly untested whereas Brooks had over 180 games.

Whole different discussion.

Speaking of Jock Madden -

I think he'd the perfect 7 to partner Burton at the Bulldogs.

Na man - You said he was better....
Now your saying he could be, hasn't had enough games, is untested or what?
Which is it - Because You amongst others - specifically said he's better.....

Funny thing is - Madden has had a bunch of years and plenty of time to be anywhere else.... But he's still playing ressies - For the Wooden spooners?

You might find he's still there because that's where he's at.

We're all somewhere... until we're not.
Sometimes all a man needs is some one to believe in him.

If only Madden could've been gifted a 10 year career without ever being dropped, countless roster changes to attempt to work with his strengths and the undying love of a few fans.
here is a prediction
Jock Madden will never ever get a halfback of the year.
He is not first grade standard
