I’m not sure that’s accurate ... I
always thought he just wanted one NSW Cup side so as all fringe players were playing together. And that he would have chosen BRE as basing the NSW Cup team in the inner west was easier to accomodate.

But wherever the truth of the past lies ... karma has ultimately taken hold and our reggies now play under the Western Suburbs Magpies banner. 👍
Correct

When I started this thread I certainly did not intend it to be a platform to discuss magpies issues or balmain issues actually the opposite .
But now 4 pages in im disappointed to see almost everypost discussing the old components that make up wests tigers . Why can't we just be one club with one team in all grades and one identity .I'm decended from a grandfather who went to balmain tigers first ever game at birchgrove oval in 1908 yet despite this when wests tigers formed I dropped the old club and adopted the new club the mighty wests tigers with all my heart
Everyone says the tigers need an identity and that's ONE identity
We are “one club with one team” but most of us are OK with being able to discus issues pertaining to our heritage without seeing it as some sort of threat to unity.

With respect I think you're over-reacting a little. There has been a history to our Club that can't be ignored and, in fact, should be well-remembered for only the right reasons. Anyone who thinks Wests or Balmain would have survived intact post 2000 is kidding themselves. We were both stuffed. Wests Tigers was a great merger and, despite a few issues along the way, seems to be getting stronger.
I wish everything you say is right but just read some of the comments .There is still a lot a of factional passion . When NRL notables have been questioned about why the tigers have trouble attracting players some say the club needs to have an identity? While I think main reason we have had trouble attracting players is to do with our position on the ladder that can't be the only reason for example the bulldogs came last last year.

I'll concede there is some factional stuff. For example, when Wests play Balmain in Matts or Ball, I hope we give the Tigers a hiding but, then, I hope both clubs make the semi finals in the junior grades because there's a good chance the players will come through to the NRL side. I think the reason we haven't attracted some players is because we were seen as a basket case by some (not all) and not because of the identity issue.

I think the most vibrant and enigmatic factions on the forum are those who think the Board and management are incompetent and useless v the club shills and cadre.

I’d be surprised and disappointed if that translated to death riding the players or hoping for the loss. Not a line that should ever be crossed.

After the last game, James and Noddy talked about changes over the last month or so, indeed some evidence of that, but that was a similar message from Madge for a long time.

Losing Jackson when at long last the storm clouds seemed to be clearing, is a massive ask, and every lad will need to find the extra from somewhere.

Where we find it, I don’t know, but if we can, it will a extraordinary accomplishment and everyone can go into the off season a bit happier and more confident.

Maybe Noddy is some kind of geeky genius after all.

Nothing surprises me anymore.

G'day @FinestTigers : You and Lee H are 💯 correct as you are both passionate WT supporters.

Lee H may look a bit different to what we perceive a typical WT supporter to look like, but that should no longer matter imo.....He's Chairman of Our Board and We gotta stop criticizing him.
He's just now proving what a passionate supporter he is by taking on the action against the NRL and I support him 100% with that.

A few on here including @mike [and I respect his opinion very much] have said Our Board is not as good as it should be, but for now it's the only Board We have and We need to support them until We can come up with something better.

I've been a Madge supporter all the way through, but Our Team now seems to have a different feeling since Sheens and Noddy took over and that's great.
With Appi and Pappi joining us for 2023 and the COE opening soon, We are imo starting to build something exciting and I'm really looking forward to Our future (y):D
Good on you Magpies. I'm with you.

He’s a good bloke @MAGPIES1963, but i think reasonable minds can come to different conclusions about the performance of the board in recent years.

If @stryker 69 and I were making our case to the NRL, we would have been armed with an favourable advice from Brett Walker SC, given them a draft summons and 7 days to make a decision about our points before we filed it. Deadline.

In the alternative, we would have quantified our damages from losing the game, which I would think in the vicinity of $2m-$4m. That would help pay for the Madge payout and rid the club of the curse of Brooksy.

The basic argument being that when we bid for the licence, it was held out to us that the officiating would be of a proper standard and that was breached by the NRL by the negligence of their paid employees.

In other words, they can choose their poison.

That’s the only way to deal with Vlandys and co at head office. He plays hardball. You have to shirt front him.

I suppose he had a go, but also, Lee is coming from a long way back. The Benji appointment, the captains pick, means all proper process is gone and our unaccountable banana republic junta is flourishing.

Yet, Lee and co did do a good thing in ripping off the cows over Lucy. Due is due, that was us being tough for once, instead of the usual pussy footing about and grovelling. A rare line in the sand. Come on Lee, walk the walk.

Anybody clinging to Balmain or the Magpies like a security blanket is doing us no favours, don't get me wrong i supported one with passion and respected the other but that is in our past.It has to be WT from here and should have been since the JV both should be fondly remembered as our past but not part of our future

Who on this forum is “clinging to Balmain or the Magpies like a security blanket”? I haven’t read anyone that fits into that category.

Of course their are people who support Western Suburbs and not the Wests Tigers, which of course they’re totally entitled to do. I’m sure if Balmain were playing in one or two senior grades they’d have a number of similar supporters.

In saying that however, I haven’t come across any non-WT supporters on this forum. So I’m a bit perplexed as to why every time Western Suburbs or Balmain are mentioned I get to read the party line trotted out as if we’re all under threat of being subverted 🤪

Personally I wish Balmain and Western Suburbs would piss off.
If I wanted to hear from reserve grade associations I would rather listen to the Northern Pride prattle on.
To me those other two died decades ago.
If the Weststigers survive the "balmain and west" will naturally die, it's a generational thing.
Old West and Balmain boys are cringing when they read this but it is a fact if life.
We need our children to recognise 1 club the Weststigers.
Just like we are starting to forget when we had leaded petrol in our cars.

Why cant we have the KOE team and pathway teams all be one club, Weststigers.
Until that happens there will be a perception of a divide 🤔

I wholeheartedly disagree.

Firstly how is this divide, or perception of a divide hurting the club. It isn’t. It’s just something old fans throw around on two bit forums. It doesn’t effect the team one iota. The only way it holds the club back is through inaction re choosing between inner west and south west.

Secondly, how often do you hear Roosters supporters or Cronulla supporters moan about having to accomodate Norths or Newtown? Never. How much interest would there be in a stand alone reggies game if it weren’t for the brilliant carnival atmosphere brought by Newtown at Henson, Norths at Bear Park and Western Suburbs at Lidcombe. I’m also reliably informed by Magpies officials that the sale of merch makes a hefty contribution. This would be considerably reduced if the Magpies senior side was pushed down to Massey Cup. And for what? Because it just doesn’t feel right ? 🥴

As for the junior reps - why cut our representation in half. I can’t imagine the NSWRL copping us fielding two WT teams in both junior comps. As it is, our model is so advantageous, the Roosters copied it by sneaking in a second Matt’s Cup team under the Central Coast banner. If in the future our club were to actually decide on one area to represent ... then it may become a valid point of discussion, but we’d only be gifting rival clubs a swag of young talent.

I hear this argument occasionally thrown up by mostly old Balmain fans (funny that), but on closer analysis it has way more negatives attached than positives.

You disagree because you don't want the Western Suburbs brand to die.
Western Suburbs and Balmain may still live on but the Weststigers football club should be united across all grades so juniors know we are one club.
Gus Gould said it himself, we have to forget about those two clubs in regard to a joint venture and become one.
It's a Mercedes with a Mercedes style and a Mercedes emblem, its not a Mercedes Volkswagen.
Stop hanging onto the past.
